So I am up-to-date with SHIELD and SPN.

Was that the finale of SHIELD? In any case, oh, it left me a flailing flapping mess of emotion. I screamed, I cheered, I sobbed. Ah, the happiness of the fulfilled nerd. Roll on Season 2 - I am ready.

SPOILER-y reaction points for SHIELD... )

SPN. Well, as always tends to happen they pull it together in time for the finale. Yes of course the show has its shortcomings, but for the moment I'm happy switching off my brain and watching my favourite characters chew up scenery and generally be epic.

Just one spoilerly comment about SPN: I will admit... )

In conclusion: who else is pinging off the walls about Peggy Carter getting her own series :) Given the revelations of Winter Soldier/Agents of SHIELD, they have plenty to play with. Rock on.

Ah, having new episodes every week, my cup it overfloweth...

So! SHIELD: continues to leave me happy and clappy and slightly broken-hearted. Only 2 eps to go and I can't wait to see what they'll pull out of the hat next :)

Supernatural...

Hmm. I spent most of the ep trying to forget that it was the pilot for the spin-off. Not entirely sure I succeeded. My main reaction was 'Urgh, I'm too old for this' as all the new cast looked about 12. Certainly it didn't particularly feel like an SPN ep, but a spin-off does need to be its own beast, and some of the characters do have promise, so good luck to 'em. Safe sailing, sirs.

And yes, the final Winchester scene did make me laugh.

SPN is also gearing up for the finale. Apparently we've been promised "...a situation they’ve never faced before...". With that in mind my predictions for the finale are:

1) Everyone will be happy and alive when the credits roll.
2) The situation will actually have improved.
3) Team Free Will will go through with what they planned to do at the beginning of the ep.
4) A marriage proposal.

(Just totally miswrote that first time as 'Angels of SHIELD' - now there's a thought).

So yes, this week was like Christmas come early with my two shows back after leaving me for varying amounts of time on cliffhangers.

Agents of SHIELD: continues to leave me asd;flkjadsf;lkj. Bring it on.

SPN: I screamed. Leave it at that. :)
lonelybrit: Apples & book (Default)
HOLY SHIT.

So, on a purely technical level, if you do not want to be spoiled for Captain America: Winter Soldier, do not watch episode 17 of Agents of SHIELD. Yes, there are major MAJOR spoilers for the movie in that ep.

As for said agents... asd;lfkjad;flkj

Let's see what next week brings.
lonelybrit: Apples & book (Default)
Right.

That's it. I'm ready.

I am now going to go and catch-up on the last two episodes of Agents of SHIELD. I'm still feeling slightly fragile after Captain America: Winter Soldier (can we say 'Game changer'?) and I hit the first post on Tumblr and frankly I think I need to be up-to-date before I'm majorly spoiled...

Wish me luck.

Or more appropriately, because my usual method of sneaking away vids isn't working *kicks it*, have a random Destiel fanvid recommendation. (You know you've got it bad when you find yourself watching something set to that classic "The Scientist").

In other news, I've caught up on SPN. I am so ready for this finale. Like I said earlier, when they finally knuckle down and refocus on the plot, they are epic :)

Destiel fanvid - the Scientist - spoilers up to S8 finale )

Yes I know Hiddleston is the voice of young James in Tinkerbell and the Pirate Fairy.

Yes I am aware that he sings. And that they have released a behind-the-scenes vid of him singing with typical Hiddles abandon.

And no. No I will not watch it. I value my sanity and also my ears (because whichever way the coin falls, one of those will be shattered). For those of you who do brave it, safe sailing :)
lonelybrit: Apples & book (Default)
Ah, so this latest week was the ep with guest star the Lady Sif. And yes, it was glorious :) SPOILERS for ep behind this 'ere cut... )

Alas I can yet again tell my attention is drifting with SPN. I'm still enjoying it, but I'm already spotting myself letting episodes slide if they lack any of my favs (currently Cas, Crowley, Kevin, etc.) Still, when they do refocus on the plot they have had some killer eps in there, so no fear I won't be here come finale-time.

Good old HMS Destiel also continues to sail true in my fannish heart. It's nice having a ship that is actually still alive and on TV (and hasn't, for example, had one half die in the other's arms in a sobbing wreck of feels on Christmas Eve, you b*****ds - yes, Merlin, I still haven't forgiven you). *ahem*

Which is why this post does tickle me. On the one hand: oooh! New 'Coldplay' album! And on the other hand: Ahahahaha... Yes, the whole thing, from coverart to track names, does feel like a Destiel fanmix :)

Also: I think the time has come that I probably need to invest in a proper Dean/Cas icon. If anyone knows a good place to look, please point said places out!

Every now and then I cast my eye over Orlando Jone's twitterand I have to say I have yet to be disappointed :) He does seem to be that supposedly purely mythical thing: an actor who genuinely gets (and enjoys) fandom. (And when I say 'enjoy', I mean it gives me that warm glow of happiness any fan gets when they see someone else get their heart and feels destroyed by an OTP fanfic classic).

So! If you want to raise your spirits, cast your eyes over 2 of his latest tweets/vids:

x. VID: 'MAD LUV' - celebrating his 10,000 tweet, a great song parody vid about the fun of being in fandom (and also his 'campaign' vid for his SHORTY award) :) Vid also embedded here )
x. His 'Merry Ship-Mas and Happy Hollow Days' tweet/vid - "An OTP to defy the laws of fandom..."

It's been a while since I had anything to say about Top Gear. All in all it was a slightly odd ep, or perhaps it's just that it's been a while since I watched. Though for once I was in utter agreement with Clarkson because what other soundtrack could there be when your quadbike turns into a jetski and you go haring off across a lake in the Italian mountains.

And of course, they'd somehow managed to pin Hiddleston down as their 'Star in a Reasonably Priced Car'.

Short reaction: GLASSES!! :)

Longer reaction: Yep, though he was as cheerful as ever, he did also sound quite tired. The comment was made that the interview was (apparently) kept relatively brief as he had to dash off for that day's Coriolanus. Anyway, trust Hiddles to as always find a way to stick a few impressions in, his Hopkins one was quite entertaining. And yes, they did show a bit of the Jaguar ad. Interesting to know that he was in fact being asked to lean out of the open door of an airborne helicopter, I'd just assumed it was greenscreen! His reaction to when they said 'CUT!' would have been my reaction from the start...

If you wander onto Tumblr today you may have spied the various posts congratulating one Mssr Hiddleston on successfully making it to 33 years old today. Fortunately the day also coincides with the one day the Donmar doesn't show a performance of Coriolanus so hopefully he's making good use of his day off. And by good use I am namely thinking of sleep. Because, yes, I have seen the pics the BBC released to promote his appearance on Top Gear this evening, and my reaction (along with a fair chunk of Tumblr from the looks of it) was generally 'JFC he looks awful - son, please, please go take a nap, you look utterly exhausted'.

Anyway, there have been some cheering Happy Birthday posts that are worth a look:

Fanart: Loki giving Tom his birthday present - absolutely rated G, but priceless for the expression on Loki's face in the 2nd panel.
Gif-set: the one where Odin forgot Loki's birthday - a reworking of the opening scene from Thor 2. Again, the expressions match the dialogue perfectly.
"Happy Birthday to this giant f**king five year old" - a general, NC-17-for-language-rated, birthday salutations post from Tumblr :)

And now, to go stake out the TV ready for Top Gear. I am expecting Hiddles to not be the world's fastest driver, the only important question, though, is whether or not he'll succeed in beating his BFF Cumberbatch's time. Onwards to 8pm...

Coriolanus

So, I have returned! From the live NT screening of Coriolanus. I took with me some mates from work. Two had seen Shakespeare before and also had a fair inkling who Hiddleston was. The third member of our troupe had never seen Shakespeare before in her life, had no idea who any of the cast was, and spent the past few days bouncing into the office excited over the fact she was going to see her first ever 'live' Shakespeare and wondering if she would even understand a word of it.

In short: it was glorious. I will admit I was most interested in hearing our Shakespeare newbie's views as she was probably the last biased of us all. And she loved it, I feel happy and vindicated :) Good job and kudos to you, Donmar and all the cast and crew, you have another Shakespeare convert.

On a critical level, all the actors acquitted themselves superbly.

On a shallow level: yes you have a very attractive male cast in some very tight leather trousers, and yes my group commented on it. Also due to the angle of the camera and the reflected light, Coriolanus' gown of white muslin humility was rendered pretty much completely transparent. It gave me flashbacks to Merlin and that scene as I looked stoically at the background and tried to focus on the plot and the dialogue. My companions had no such qualms and told me afterwards that yes, it did indeed hide absolutely nothing whatsoever. Good to know.

Jaguar are using the tagline 'It's good to be bad' to launch their latest car, and have managed to land Sir Ben, Mark Strong, and of course the Hiddles as their line-up. The ad is slightly wonderful and if any director anywhere feels inspired to use this trio again in earnest I for one would be a very happy soul :)

Going back a couple of years to 'before-he-was-famous', or to be more precise 'pre-Thor', somehow from some forgotten vault, someone unearthed Tom's old audition tape. The one where he tried Thor. Yes, the one where he tried to bulk up only to be told afterwards to please debulk because they had other plans for him. I think my reaction was the same as most, i.e. bless him for trying, but they absolutely made the right final decision for Thor and Loki.

My reaction might have been a little less contained for the other 2 videos that hit fandom today, both from Thor 2: Vids and SPOILERS for the movie behind the cut... )
lonelybrit: Apples & book (Default)
Oooh.

Given that all the advance tickets went within 20 minutes of going on general sale, and that the first 3 rounds of 'Front Row' tickets took out their website, I suppose it's no surprise that the Donmar have decided to extend Coriolanus by 6 extra performances.

Tickets for this aren't going on general sale, but can be won by entering a draw: details on the Donmar website.

Part of me is tempted to give it a go, because it is, fangirling aside, definitely a play that easily justifies second viewing. However, I will be good and stay out, and good luck to those who've been unlucky getting tickets so far :)
lonelybrit: Apples & book (Default)
Well, overall it was the weakest of all 3 eps. But still, very nice acting all round. And I did like the resolution of it all at the end.

More SPOILER-y reaction behind the cut... )

ETA: And yes, Tumblr and Sherlock fandom is going into meltdown. It is beautiful. 'Let Me Play You the Song of my People' (SPOILERS), aka my favourite post at the moment that also perfectly summed up my feelings as the credits rolled :)
lonelybrit: Apples & book (Default)
ARGH! I have feelings on this episode. I will admit my interest the past few eps had been waning, but this one caught it right back. Looking forward to seeing what happens next!

Things that made me happy include (links SPOILER-y):

1) Misha and Jensen-via-Jared tweeting during the ep.

2) The fact that no-one ships Destiel harder than Sam Winchester and Orlando Jones.

3) Osric Chau continuing to be a little ray of sunshine. How can you not like someone who has also written fluffy birthday fanfic for his character where he turns into a teenage mutant ninja turtle :)

Onwards!

Workwise a major deadline was passed last week and I've dedicated every spare minute since to catching-up on lost sleep. And of course, catching-up on film and TV.

So I've now seen Day of the Doctor, I may have had something in my eye by the end. Yes I will be rewatching. I also have An Adventure in Time and Space to watch at some point too.

Filmwise I went to see Philomena. A lovely if bittersweet film. As an adoptee myself (thankfully in much, much happier circumstances) it was interesting to see the view from the other side of the fence, as it were. Beautifully acted by all, I do recommend it if you have the opportunity. There was also Red 2. Which was awesome, obviously, because 1) Helen Mirren, and 2) "No grasshopper. It is not."

My first free weekend I also had a [livejournal.com profile] princess_s with me. I won't say I "hosted" as, again, I was mainly catching-up on lost sleep, but we did do a marathon of Agents of SHIELD. And you know what? I liked it a lot, lot more on second viewing (it was the first for her). I'm definitely looking forward to seeing where we go from here post-Thor 2.

I'm also working my way through Sleepy Hollow. I'm on ep 4 and enjoying it immensely so far!

Oh, and this weekend? Might be sauntering along to some little play called Mojo. Just because. Who knows, if we're lucky we may even recognise a member or two of the cast :)
lonelybrit: Apples & book (Default)
Will someone please explain to me why Tom Hiddleston is all over Tumblr singing f**king Celine Dion, striking the 'Jane' pose as seen in the Thor 2 poster, and catching snacks in his mouth like he's is officially a puppy. And let's not even get onto the herpes.

Honestly, I leave the internets for for one weekend, one weekend, and interviews like this one explode everywhere.

We had enough trouble at Horbling trying to apply logic to some of his Slumber Party answers, since his 'explanation' as to why exactly he'd seen Hemsworth starkers was really no help to anyone whatsoever.
