I have a deadline per week for the next three weeks. For me this very stress inducing. So naturally my mind is taking anything as a distraction. Typical. Anyway, things that have amused me this past week are:

  • Hotel Babylon. Yes, we did wind up watching it solely for ASH. However in the end we found quite harmlessly entertaining, simple glossy fluff that doesn't try to be anything else, a la Desperate Housewives. ASH breezed through the role, inducing laughter when he forced the hotel staff manager to acompany his jingle redition on the tambourine, before emptying the dining room by getting depressed and bashing out Chopin's funeral dirge on the grand. And quite frankly anything is better than Big Brother, which my housemates for some reason insist on watching. *vomits*
  • Franz Ferdinand Webchat.
    Clock: *hits 11pm*
A Few Thousand Questions: *hit the servers*
    The Servers: *quiver*
20,000 Questions: *continue to hit the servers*
    The Servers: *melt*
    Franz Webmaster: *cries*

Actually it could have been worse. Although the chat was only open to questions for an hour, the band stayed on an extra hour just to work through some of the mass that had accumulated in the first few minutes. Which was nice of them, and Alex apparently swung round to S_T to thank people for chatting. In any case, answers that drew a giggle included:

Fan: Hi guys, welcome to the web chat. I hear it's pretty sunny there in Sydney?
    Nick: lakjsd;lkja;lkn;oioihn;k0u[8hy

Fan: If a movie was made about your life, what would the theme song be? Who would play you?
Paul: I'd get that guy from The Beat my Heart Skipped, my missus says I look just like him, either him or John Candy with the Farrelly Brothers directing, the theme song would be Flash Gordon with the name Gordon replaced with Paul.

Fan: Can you remember your favourite book from childhood?
Bob: I won a dinosaur book at sunday school when I was 4. I loved that book. I always thought it a bit wierd how the church gave me a book about dinosaurs when they believe the world was made 4 thousand years ago but the book claimed on the first page that the dinosaurs became extinct 65 million years ago

Fan: Alright, ultimate question. Boxers or briefs?
    Alex: Neither thanks
  • Arctic Monkeys covering 'Love Machine' by Girl's Aloud. The rhythm and timing are shakey, the tuning is gone, the singer has a slight attack of the giggles half-way through. In short a classic. Incidentally, if anyone knows where you can download this, let me know!

See, I caught 'Hotel Babylon' last week, purely by accient - I was waiting for 'House' to come on, and just I loved it. I would have watched it this week anyway, even if ASH wasn't in it, but he just made it even better.

Then you have Ali, who gave the most vitriolic tonguelashing I've seen in a long time! Isn't it wierd how you can be united in your love of one programme and yet so divided over another? Then again, she does watch BB so... [shudders]

God luck with your deadlines, but I take it that means you won't be coming to London before I leave :(
