So, that was a lovely lovely evening with
vampirefever and
princess_s.
We met and promptly discussed buying tickets for ASH's play in November. I was all 'Oh no, I mustn't, I'm meant to be working and saving money!'
This lasted for all of two minutes, when I saw the poster for said play, there was a very pretty Richard E. Grant.
Lady at booth: So, it's three tickets?
LB: No, four.
VF and PS: *grin*
Then it was dinner... and onwards to the play.
Alright, so first off, the play was actually very good. The dialogue was fun, and most of the main characters were fantastic. The weakest link was the woman, it's not that she was bad, she just lacked the strength and charisma of the other male leads. Robert Lowe was perfectly acceptable, really delivering some great lines and jokes in the second half. Barrowman had great fun being pissed-off and pushy in the courtroom battle, his smirks and death glares were a joy to behold. But the really stellar turns came from the the Colonel and his subordinate whose name I can't remember. Kendrick and Jessop - Kendrick being the part played by Nicholson in the film version.
Kendrick was brilliant. He managed to say the famous 'YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!' line in such a way as to make it his own, which is saying something.
And of course, slash does now need to be written for Lowe and Barrowman's characters. There was tension. There was a *brilliant* moment when Barrowman's lawyer implies a nasty comparison between Lowe and his father. The resulting horrible silence, the looks and the icy come-back were the stuff of angsty smut, I'm telling you :)
Naturally, the highlight came after the play itself. When we toddled round to inspect the stage door. All the cast members came out, and all were willing to autograph, and occasionally photographed too. Barrowman came out looking divinely lickable. He was wearing glasses too, and I do have a thing for a nice pair of specs. When asked about Dr Who, he confirmed that he wasn't going to be in series 2. Instead he'll be doing some musical thing for the beeb, which will be a saturday primetime program. And Captain Jack *will* be returning for series 3. So that's alright then.
Then he toddled off behind a van, and then re-emerged on a moped, wearing a grey helmet, and with a rucksack on his back. Dorky but still utterly adorable.
I do have to say that Robert Lowe was a pure gentleman when he came out the back door. I'd half expected him to just push on through behind a wall of security and hop into his car. But no. He came out, looking quite pretty and slim and surprisingly small. He signed everyone's programme who asked, personalising without question. He chatted with the fans, happily posed with them for photos, and generally left us all thoroughly satisfied when he finally took his leave.
And that was that. Quite a night. I'm very happy. Still buzzing, and still with a smile on my face. Hopefully it'll last for a decent while :)
