So, watched final ep of Dr Who. My non-spoilery reactions were, in chronological order:
1 - "SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!"
2 - "You bastards."
3 - "Thank god."
4 - "EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!"
Small things first.
Firstly, I like the new Doctor so far. I do. So there.
Secondly, the only only reason I forgive them the sheer awful cheesiness of the lines like 'Rose, you are worth fighting for' and 'Rose, you need a Doctor', is because of what happened later/earlier. In other words...
THE DOCTOR/JACK KISS!!!!!!!!!!!! SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!
Yes, it wasn't really a kiss a la Wes/Lilah or Willow/Tara, but still. It was pretty. I squee-ed out loud and was very happy until...
He died. Yes, he did die a very good death. I pet and huggle him for just stepping forward to face the Daleks like that when he knew his time was up. Though I was silently going 'You bastards' at the writers - because they always kill my favourite characters. My one hope came from the fact I knew Jack is returning in the second half of Series 2. But part of me was expecting them to leave him dead and have it done through time travel.
Until he came back. I quietly let out a sigh of relief and tried to concentrate back on the actual episode.
And my heart was promptly broken at the look on his face when he saw the TARDIS vanish out of sight. Because, well, if he was the only person brought back to life, then he's just been abandoned on a space ship all by himself, the last human, in orbit above an Earth that has already been pretty much destroyed by the Daleks. Hmmm. Not exactly a welcoming home, is it?
I smell a fic coming on...

Date: 2005-06-18 05:34 pm (UTC)Okay, no more on that. BUT KISSY FACE. Lovely sweet, tender, utterly heartmeltingly gorgeous kissing. I loved that both kisses were serious, without a hint of jokeyness. JB - you are a dude. Jack, you are a big damn hero.
I need this to be ficced. But Roger first...

Date: 2005-06-18 06:29 pm (UTC)*dances in place*
The ep was great---dare I say, fantastic?---but did have a few flaws. I was riding high until the ending Rose bit. I mean, did they HAVE to turn her into Dark Phoenix?
We must've had the same thoughts about Jack, because I was sure he was dead, and that they would encounter him in another time next year, and he'd have no knowledge of them. But yahoo! He's alive, he's aliiiiiiiivveee!!!
Re: BIGHOMOKISS!
Date: 2005-06-18 06:39 pm (UTC)Though such a bittersweet ending for him. He lives... but now he's all alone, with no shuttles and no people to help him out. When he does finally meet up with Rose, he's going to have the added heartache of realising the Doctor he loved died. *sigh* Ah, the lovely angst :)
And yes, parts towards the end were awfully cheesy, but I forgive it all because of the kiss *melts*
