Blimey. Where to begin...
Right, well, the day began, as always, with me late and legging it with bags over my shoulder to try and make the bus. Which I kinda did. Eventually. Roll on a few hours and I was deposited warm and rumpled in Milton Keynes, where mere minutes later the first squees began when I finally met
eloise_bright. *sigh* More on that later =)
The place was huge, crowded, but with use of elbows and heavy bags we finally managed to plough a path to the Alexis Denisof neck of the woods. The place to be, quite possibly the only place to be really. Tickets were collected and we then hovered around, trying to see though screens, fans, security guards and palm trees in order to get just a glimpse of the lovely AD himself. Which we did. YAY! Frequently!
Dress of the day: Light grey leather jacket (which turned out to be lovely and warm and soft to the touch, we mention this purely as a matter of passing interest), a very fetching lilac-y teeshirt, and *squee* dark framed glasses. He seemed to nearly always be smiling his adorable head off. Having basked in his presence, we toddled off to dump our bags before returning tostalk wait in earnest. After a mere three hours, which we spent doing a very good imitation of meerkats watching for the approaching hawk, our numbers were called.
Eloise: I think I'm going to be sick.
LB: No, you're not. Breathe...
Eloise: He's so loveleeeeeeeeee!!
LB: *poing* *squee* *bounce* Loveleeeeee!!
By this point the people and guards around here were starting to edge away a little.
Things did not improve when we finally got to handing over cash in exchange for photos. Do you know that famous Angelus smirk pose? The one where he's looking up at you, with one side of the lips curled in the most gorgeously delicious evil hint of a smirk? Right, keep that in mind. Now imagine, if Wes turned evil, that he was told to try for the same pose. And imagine he was successful.
Eloise: It has to be that photo.
LB (for some reason she still can't understand): I'm not sure.
Eloise: *waving photo under LB nose and in disturbing gruff voice* 'Come to my study, LB...'
LB: Yep, it has to be that one.
By this point, the man selling said photos was clearly torn between laughing and calling for security.
Then came the panic of who was going to take the photos. Finally it was solved when...
Eloise: **as queue in front shrinks to a mere two and AD himself hoves into view** Oh, you go first. I'm going to be sick. You're braver than me.
LB: ?!!!
Lady-behind-taking-pity: I'll take your photo for you.
Eloise: Thank you!
LB: *in weird dreamlike state of detachment* **floats forwards**
AD: Hello, LB, how are you?
LB: *in purely automatic response drilled into every Oxfordian since birth* I'm good, thank you, how are you?
AD: I'm great. So, where did you come from?
LB: Oh, I just came up from Oxford.
AD: *smile*
LB: *melts*
AD: Ah, lovely.
LB: Yeah, it's a pretty city. **to self, but nothing compared to you**
AD: So, did you like the show?
LB: Oh yes, I was gutted when it was cancelled.
AD: Yeah, me too. (Ed: *sob*) Did you like the ending?
LB: *in diplomatic tones* Weeelll... Not like as such, but it was an ending that stuck in the memory. You couldn't forget it.
AD: Yeah, it kinda stayed with you.
LB: Still... It was the right ending for the show... It was a good ending. Out of interest, what was it you had to drink in Guise WIll Be Guise when Wesley pretended to be Angel and had to drink the glass of blood?
AD: Oh yes, that episode... It was a mixtures of liquids that they dyed red. Mainly corn syrup, starch and other fluids, and dyes... It was actually kinda foul. Good memory!
LB: *blush* Thank you. *accepts back photo with trembling hand* Thank you so much, it was great to meet you.
AD: Thank you. *delivers final killer smile*
LB: **totters off stage, centre left**
After semi-collapse by distant window, I turned to watch Eloise have her own tete-a-tete with Mr Denisof. A few minutes later, and she too came wafting towards me. I scooped her up, wrung her out, and then we pushed off after being told to do so by increasingly alarmed security men.
And thus was born the mantra of the rest of the weekend...
LB and Eloise: Oh, he's so LOVELEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!
One could almost describe it as a post-coital glow, which in fact I did a few minutes later, and Eloise agreed entirely, after phoning up her husband first to a) check he was alive, b) thank him for letting her come, and c)...
Eloise: ... oh, he's so lovely. But I still love you!
Hubby: That sounds so convincing.
The remainder of that afternoon was spent checking up on Mr Denisof at regular intevals, bickering over the presence of the Daleks (LB: They're so sweeeet! Eloise: They were used to pscyholoically damage me as a child! Dalek: EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!!), and repeating our newfound mantra until we finally reached our Alexis/Wesley zen state. It's a good place to be.
We also spent a large portion of the time composing RPS as a result of a throwaway line Alexis foolishly unleashed into LJ-dom, having been duped by the apparent innocent and pure-minded appearance of Eloise. (See her LJ for the line itself.)
Most of the guests packed up and were gone by 5.30pm. Alexis and the lady next to him from Star Trek: Enterprise (the vulcan? Joleen somebody?) stuck around signing until 5.45, and he was smiling and chatting to the last.
Such a gentleman. And so very very lovely =)
To be continued...
