Hmm. So, usually, there are four operators needed to keep The Oxford Story running nice and smoothly. At least four. Preferably more. At a pinch we can manage with three if things are very, very quiet. As in no more than three visitors every three hours.
Today there were only two operators, one of whom was me - terrified as it was my first day without any help/supervision.
And of course, Saturday turned out to be the busiest day pretty much ever.
It is a strange but oh so true fact, that groups of tourists are drawn to queues. They scent them a block away and converge. At one point it was like a meeting of the United Nations in our small foyer. Russian, Spanish, Japanese, German, Czech, French, American, Canadian and something-utterly-unintelligible-to-a-panicking-LB were all babbling around over that irritating, irritating music tape that runs on a five minute loop non-stop...
*quivers*
Ooh, and I killed the till! Whoot! Thankfully the customer who was waiting was actually a cashier herself and she, thank God, took pity and came to my rescue. I could have kissed her.
And I officially love
eloise_bright. Treachery and men in tights. *happy sigh*
