So I've survived, sorry, enjoyed returning to the land of my fathers for 3 weeks. No seriously, it was an amazing trip and I saw many wonderful things. One of which was a lunch attended by both my birth parents and adoptive parents, which was fab. That said, the city may currently be the place for new, exciting cuisine, but considering the country spent pretty much the entire three weeks trying to poison me, I generally admired from afar whilst nibbling on a roll. Still, have seen so much history, so many 'have to be seen to be believed' citadels in the deserts/mountains, and ALL the gold, that overall the pain and discomfort was still definitely worth it :)

Another upside was that when I returned home I genuinely was in no state to do anything but stake out the sofa and catch-up on some shows.

First. Agents of SHIELD. I'm still easily enjoying this, although, a bit like SPN, the show is now a far cry from what first aired back in Season 1. They did, however, recently address something not mentioned in Captain America: Civil War (oh, and yes I've seen it, twice, and yes I adored it :) ).

I thought the film did an excellent job of making the issue of the Sokovia Accords a not entirely clear-cut right/wrong one.

I did agree that, since SHIELD was gone, there needed to be some kind of accountability for the Avengers. In blunt terms, people like to know that if they have a complaint/query, there is somewhere/someone they can go to to lodge it formally and know it will be considered.

I also really liked the King of Wakanda and his 'A victory that costs innocents, is no victory at all'. I trusted him and his son, and if they saw the Accords as addressing a genuine need, then I was close to being convinced.

I liked that it was drawn up by so many countries, and that it was an international body that was being proposed.

THAT SAID.

The fact it was being pushed by General Ross, and the fact he was trying to push it through so quickly (mere days?!), set alarm bells ringing. The original purpose of the Accords may be right, but (and I say this as someone who watched this not knowing anything about the comics), like Steve I did not trust what the Accords were really all about.

Which was then proved correct in ep 20 of SHIELD. Where we were told the Accords were going to be used as a framework by the US government to start enforced registration of 'enhanced' individuals. Because putting people on lists can only end well.

I'm glad they left that out the film, as it would have made the dilemma much less of, well, a dilemma. As it was, I felt for both teams, and frankly my heart broke with that final fight between Tony and Steve. I look forward to there being a proper onscreen reconciliation between all.

I also recently entertained [livejournal.com profile] esmerelda_t. We do enjoy a good fanvid, and although she stopped watching SPN waaaay back, even she can be entertained by the odd Destiel vid (a frequent exchange being "Did they actually say/do that on the show?!" "Yes."). I have been thoroughly enjoying Season 11 so far, although since The Thing happened, I've been stockpiling eps until the finale so I can see how it ends without interfering hiatuses. But they recently released some promo pics for the penultimate ep, and it was as I realised how I would have to explain who everyone was to her that I realised just how utterly bonkers this show has officially become.

So the Big Bad this season is Amara, aka God's Sister.

And going up against her to Save the World (again) is this season's version of Team Winchester, aka The Winchesters, the King of Hell, the King of Hell's mother, and Lucifer.

Oh, and of course God.

Who also, it seems, makes the Winchesters pancakes for breakfast.

Quite frankly, they might as well make Destiel canon because in amongst all this lunacy, it would probably actually be one of the more logical, reasoned plot developments given the show so far.

So, one SHIELD finale to catch-up on, and shortly after SPN. Please shows, do not let me down :)
