Ah, Supernatural, you daft incorrigible show, you have returned to me - let me squish you to my bosom!

There were 2 main non-spoilery sentiments by the time the credits rolled:

1) *headdesk* In the same way that every Merlin plot began with 'A stranger comes to Camelot...', there was the certain inevitable plot set-up you knew would come along before too long. I did groan and roll the eyes nevertheless, knowing it's coming doesn't make it any the less annoying.
2) EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! Oh but I love the general set-up so far! The characters we have to play with (seen and unseen), the whole feel of this new world post angel fall. *happy sigh*

Seriously. Once. Just bloody once could we NOT have plots (that have to get more and complicated) that revolve around the pin-point of one of the brothers having a nasty secret that he must keep from the other. Grrr.

And when I talk about plots having to get more and more complicated, I am looking at Dean's storyline thus far. It's not just enough that he decides to override his brother's clearly stated decision to move on, it's not enough that he talks his brother into saying 'Yes' to something he knows Sam would otherwise rather die than say 'Yes' to, NO! We have to also have to rehash all the angst of deciding to wipe someone's memory WITHOUT THEIR CONSENT.

*sigh*

Still. The rest of the ep I loved all over, so who knows, maybe the writers will find a way to pleasantly surprise me. I was pleasantly surprised last season that Dean and Sam's big secret (purgatory/dying) didn't linger too long after they were announced.

I am beginning to think that a 'Happy Ending' for these lads should include, at the very least, an end to this unhealthy co-dependency they have. Dean literally unable to identify himself without Sammy. And Sammy fully aware of this and always having to do U-turns on his major decisions because otherwise his brother would go into meltdown. I don't want either of them dead, but when that day comes and they get the opportunity for it to be relatively peaceful as this one was, I do honestly think the most loving thing they could do would be to respect the other's decision, support them and let them move on, leaving behind, as Bobby pointed out, one heck of a legacy.

That aside.

I love the idea of Sam being an angel vessel again. I was utterly unspoiled and was so so glad. I'm also glad that we had time to get the thumbs up from Castiel, so that's one less thing to worry about for at least an ep or so.

And Castiel. *happy sigh* I'm still loving how the writers are integrating him into the Winchester family. Yes Sam comes first for Dean, but equally, after Dean, Sam comes first for Cas. The Winchesters come first for him. And as for Dean, even in the midst of all the madness, he was still concerned about Cas' safety, telling him in no uncertain terms what he needed to do.

And for ONCE, thank f**k, Cas actually listened and took his advice. Admittedly it was scuppered by a plank of wood to the head, but baby steps baby steps...

As for the angels... LOVE what they've set-up so far. The idea that we have nice ones, pissed ones, and (more excitingly) ones still invisible and absolute in the ether, hunting for vessels. Looking forward to seeing the writers play with that one.

Finally. Ezekiel. I like you so far. And I'm glad you were the one to possess Sam. I'm sure, if he'd had the power, Cas would have been willing to try so himself. But just trying to imagine the confusion that a Cas!possessed!Sam would cause the Dean/Cas Sam/Dean writers hurts the brain, so let's be thankful for small mercies :)
