lonelybritSo, you know that scene in How to Train Your Dragon where Toothless finds the equivalent of catnip for dragons and is all purring and being inappropriate with the grass? Well that was basically me and this ep by the time the credits rolled.
Firstly it is so good to have Crowley and Cas back on the scene. And for that matter Naomi (and yes, it tickles me no end that her idea of The Ultimate Test for Cas was to see if he could kill Dean). And, surprisingly, it was in the end also delightful to have Meg back too - which says something about the writing this ep given that up until now I've honestly not been too fussed about her.
Speaking of the writing: I remain in gratitude to whoever has had a hand in writing this new 3-way family/friend thing between Cas and both the Winchesters. Yes there is the famous 'profound bond' between Dean and Cas, but somehow they've managed to make that not an excluding one when it comes to Sam, and ditto for the bond between Sam and Dean not excluding Cas from the family dramas. Congrats, SPN writers, please keep it up.
I am holding on final judgement for the moment on the new Cas/Meg vibe. On the one hand, I love it, it gives me Good Omen feels. Plus I actually just think it's good for Cas to develop a relation-/friend-ship of his own, he needs to have a world outside of Dean and Sam. Also, I thought the chemistry between them was very fun during their 'Clarence' scene.
In any case, I will admit I did wibble at Meg's mention of her "unicorn". So again, kudos, SPN team, you got me caring about something I really haven't spared a thought on until now.
Of course, just to reaffirm to us all that, unicorn or not, Cas' sun continues to rise and set with Dean, we had to have that "I need you" scene too. Oh my god. I adored it. I loved it. I face-palmed and laughed. It was like every clichéd purple-prose OTT Tru Luv fanfic I could ever have imagined. Even with the 'clink' of the dropped dagger. I mock it because I adore it so.
FINALLY.
Sam and Dean. Aww. Being good brothers, united whilst still bickering with each other. I am glad we are done with the Sam hiding things storyline, like Dean I'm bored with the constant secrets between the two of them. You'd think after 8 seasons they'd have learned it's never worth it.
So, now we wait for the next ep. Is it back to being next week or is there another wait? In any case, I will be here, SPN, when you are ready to return.
