My god. That was the most gratuitous 45 minutes of TV I have flailed my way through in some time. I 'OMG'-ed, I squeed, I flailed, I properly clapped like a seal.
Good times.
My biggest squee/flail/OMG moment this week goes to.... GWEN.
Oh yes. Bow down, bitches, to the Queen of Camelot.
Yes the wonderbra is back with a vengeance, but so is the brains, the compassion, and also the you-cross-my-people-you-pay-the-price ruthlessness a ruler needs. I'll be interested to see what happens next week as she may have handed out the sentence, but technically it's yet to be carried out.
But anyway. Yes. Gwen. You rocked this ep, keep it up because I like this new you :)
As for Arthur and Merlin... Oh lads. They haven't really changed, have they. Still managing to get into the most bromantic situation imaginable and snuggling and swearing to protect each other to the death. Yep, same old same old *happy sigh*
As for the rest of the knights. HAH! Oh it is good to see them, but I had to laugh because god bless the producers who gave the green light to gratuitous mining scenes where ALL the knights must be semi-naked ALL THE TIME.
Show, you treat us well, you really do.
Morgana was gorgeous as always, a little more settled than last series. Now with her own castle and renewed purpose. No magic yet, I'm guessing though that when she unleashes it, it will be ferocious.
AND MORDRED!! *pings* OK, I know him from watching him goof around a football field with the rest of team Merlin, so it's great fun to see him now unleash his inner bad boy. In the end only a brief appearance, but I'm liking this new older incarnation. He certainly has the eyes like Butterfield. Let's see how the rest of it goes.
ROLL ON NEXT WEEK :)

Date: 2012-10-06 10:44 pm (UTC)I like that Merlin actually looks older now, and is less slapstick, more on a kind of mutually understood even footing with Arthur. It also feels like The Reveal is a nanosecond away, which would be cool (though I'm not stressing - I feel I'm the only person I know who isn't sweating and fretting for that to happen!)
Gwen was utterly racktastic - er, queenly! I also loved her seeming to be gulled by the deceiving servant girl, only to be completely ruthless and cool at the end. I also love that she's far more confident now, that she offers her counsel as a right and expects (rightly) to be heard, expects to be running the kingdom while her husband s off a-fighting for the Band Of Oh So Much More Than Brothers Nudge Nudge. I have to say, the fanservice this ep was off the charts. Not even a squeak of complaint here!
I'm actually going to rewatch it before I go to bed. that - hasn't happened with Merlin in a long time!
(p.s. I'm very glad Brendan's still in GBBO. I got rather peeved at that little bit of "what 70s homage are you going to make today?" jibe from Paul this week. I hope he wins, nyah!

Date: 2012-10-06 11:52 pm (UTC)Yes, I did like how although Arthur still teases Merlin, he also didn't let up until Merlin admitted what was upsetting him. And when they did finally talk, it felt like they were talking as equals, not one talking down to the other. So thumbs up from me!
And yes, it felt like they could now do the Reveal at any moment. Which I would like to happen sooner rather than later, but I'm happy/resigned to waiting until the writers get to it in their own sweet time.
I did also like how the mention of 'sorcery' didn't overly phase Gwen, there was noticeably not the hysterical knee-jerk reaction of Uther. Gwen remained calm; what condemned the girl wasn't the magic, it was the betrayal of trust and the deaths of the knights.
In conclusion: YES - fanservice off the charts. No complaints from this quarter either!
