Supernatural continues to entertain me; yes I still miss Cas and yes I think we see too little of Crowley, but even with these quibbles I am entertained.
It distresses me that they show dear Edgar getting his face half-burnt off in the recap, but then don't continue to show us whether or not he was OK. Edgar, where are you? SPEAK TO ME, EDGAR!
This new 'Dick' leviathan also is growing on me. His sleazy smile is simple but effective, and I did like how they managed to make the whites of his eyes properly gleam in the shadows of his limo.
I must admit that I've read/watched enough tales that drive home the futility of postponing death (i.e. you cannot escape and the cost in trying is often horrendous) that my sympathies are very rarely with folks who start trying to dodge the reaper. They even had that recent-ish ep with Dean getting to be a reaper for a day and seeing how when it is your time, it is your time and there's no use quibbling about it.
That said...
My theory at the end of the last ep (ending with Bobby getting shot) was that Bobby probably wouldn't die, but he most definitely would be removed from the season for quite a while. Why? Because he was the one who had seen and figured out what the Leviathans' big plan was. Knowing this is clearly a Big Deal, even Dick himself came by to make sure that Bobby hadn't yet been able to pass on the knowledge.
So when the reaper arrived and Bobby refused to go, for once I was conditionally not on the reaper's side. The condition being that Bobby's main concern for getting back to the land of living was not just that he did not want to die, but that he had to somehow get the important knowledge to the Winchesters before he passed over.
I do really hope that because he achieved that he did in fact go with the reaper. Logically, however, I know it's highly unlikely. When Bobby dies he'll get a proper death scene, not a cliffhanger. So at the moment my guess is he chose to hang around as a ghost. Shame but not unexpected.
Which leads me on to my next theory!
Cas. Yes I still live in hope he will return, and I still remember him promising Dean that he would find some way to atone for his mistakes. And at this moment in time I can't think of a more likely candidate to find a way to restore Bobby/let him cross over than a former, repentant angel of the lord. Who knows, maybe if Bobby winds up prowling purgatory he'll bump into a familiar trench-coated figure.
For me, Bobby's apparent 'death' just proves that we have definitely not heard the last of Cas. The loss of those two (plus the impala) is just too much. Yes we're going to see the lads for once truly on their own, but it's now too stark a state to be permanent.
So, those were my thoughts. NEXT.
Look away now if you don't want to be spoiled for a guest-star due in ep 17...
Misha Collins on Castiel's 'Supernatural' Return
I will not lie, there is a little angelic choir singing HALLELUJAH in my head right now :)
I would also like to point out that my theories stated above were concocted before I saw this spoiler. So now the speculation begins! Are we getting flashback!Cas? Are we getting hallucination!Cas? Are we getting human!fallen!whothefuckknows!Cas?
Ah well, who knows, what will be will be. For now I trust Edgar or Crowley will soon be making their snarky return to tide me over till ep 17. Rock on!

Date: 2011-12-08 11:30 pm (UTC)I have no doubt that Dean and Cas' profound bond will see them through all this in the end, this show does love to have 'love' being the factor that winds up punching out of hell/breaking Lucifer's mind-hold/whatever. There will be sunshine and kittens all round I am sure *nods*
