Merlin, aka I came, I saw, I flailed.
Dec. 4th, 2011 01:29 amI had no expectations of this ep whatsoever and while bits of it did drag a little, overall I was left a happy happy flailing ball of squee.
Also: "You know how the King loves his training" has become the new euphemism of the week. Excellent!
I have to admit that if series 4 hadn't in general just floored me thus far I would be disappointed with the writing of the knights, Gawaine in particular. Series 3 made me love them, and whilst they are in Series 4 in body, on the whole the writers never seem to really give them much depth beyond a laddish background for Arthur.
Fortunately this series has, frankly, with one ep exception, floored me and left me able to accept this loss as an acceptable sacrifice for all that's been going on elsewhere.
Unexpectedly, this ep wound up being all about Arthur and yet again there was a lovely moment at the end where all of a sudden I could almost begin to see where the legendary King Arthur would be coming from.
He is starting to stand up to his Uncle which is always intensely satisfying to see. What looked like initial hesitation on his part turned-out to be not his mind being swayed but him realising and starting to own up to his own past actions.
That final scene with him and possessed!Elyan... *sigh*
I'll admit, I flailed when he promised to treat the druids with respect. I'm with Merlin; those weren't words just said for the moment, Arthur meant them and hopefully it's an indicator of more changes to come in his attitude to magic users.
So to end on a happy note:

So we're starting to get scarily close to the finale *twitch* Yet again I have no idea what is coming next but I'm anxious and excited about finding out :)
