Tonight was episode 3.
Non-spoiler-y reaction: By god a definite thumbs up. I honestly have no words. No wait, I do. Those red cloaks really are lovely.
Spoiler-y reaction: OMG OMG OMG I CANNOT BELIEVE THEY JUST DID THAT!!
Oh Arthur. Oh Uther. Oh Merlin.
I genuinely got the shivers up my spine when Arthur walked into the great hall for that final scene. Realising what I was about to see. To be honest the crown itself was a bit rubbish compared to other examples, but the atmosphere leading up to it, and when he turned round to face his court for the first time as King...
Long live the King indeed.
I know there are many many Merlins and Arthurs out there, there have been so many books/films/TV shows/etc... but at that moment congratulations, Bradley James, no doubt about it, you are definitely my Arthur.
Where will the show go from here? Pfft, who knows. But oh the possibilities are now endless. It really has just become its own beast and all bets are off.
My initial thoughts about how they're going to do the magic reveal? I think the key will be Arthur and Merlin's friendship. In one episode Arthur 'learnt his lesson' and swore quiet dedication to continuing the fight against magic. At the same time his last conversation with Merlin was to emphasise what a loyal friend Merlin is to him. My guess is we'll see that friendship build-up even more over the coming eps, because I think at this stage the only thing that could make Arthur even hesitate in his "Magic = evil" stance is if he cares about Merlin so much that when the final proof comes, he honestly can't immediately conceive Merlin as also being evil through and through.
That or maybe we'll see more of Dragoon and maybe him going up against Morgana as vengeance for turning spells he intended to heal into deadly weapons. Because, ooooh, the look on Merlin's face when he realised she was the one behind him losing so much... He was angry, I would not want to be on the receiving end of that.
And NOW I have to wait for 2 weeks. Yes, this year I am running away from my birthday to far and distant shores to visit friends. Ah, sunny California, I hear you call to me... Merlin, you and I will be having serious catching-up time upon my return.

Date: 2011-10-15 10:52 pm (UTC)Oh Merlin, he does carry all the burdens doesn't he? For his magic to get turned into something that harms people, that caused such pain to Arthur - Morgana should be afraid.
Oh Merlin i just want to comfort him, his face when Arthur came at him, when it had all gone so wrong, I was practically in tears. And am i wrong in thinking that that was the first time Merlin has properly used his magic against Arthur?
I just don't see where they will go from here Merlin has to change Arthur's mind but from where they are at the moment, that's going to be difficult.
I am interested to see where they go from here. Also anyone else betting on a magical reveal at the end of the season?

Date: 2011-11-02 01:29 pm (UTC)Well Merlin has countless times knocked Arthur over/out though usually without Arthur realising it's him. This was the first time Arthur knew it was magic being used against him and knew who was responsible.
I think the way things are going that we may well have the magical reveal this series. It's all not going at all as I expected. I always thought we'd end with Arthur being crowned with him all ready to be the awesome king we know from the legends. Instead we've got this young man who isn't a bad king but still has some way to go. I imagine things in Camelot are going to get a lot worse before the finale, particularly as we know they've got to spin this out long enough to continue into series 5.

Date: 2011-10-15 11:00 pm (UTC)I sort of think the only way to do Merlin's coming out scene is for Arthur to promptly say "well duh, tell me something I don't know." Cause otherwise he just looks really dense. Plus I like the idea that he loves Merlin just like Colin Firth loved Bridget Jones, just the way he is
Bon Voyage! Have a great trip and birthday!

Date: 2011-11-02 01:32 pm (UTC)While many reactions were induced during the latest 2 eps, the epic 'Nooooo!' and tears were thankfully not among them. Not to worry, I'm sure they'll be ramping the heartbreak back up in time for the finale :)
