I have retuned home to find the mother has a new computer with shiny windows Vista *recoils slightly* Of course she has no anti-virus installed because that is her way.

I'd like to try something other than AVG if possible since it's really slowed-up our other computers. Can anyone rec a good one that should be able to cope with all this new Vista stuff?

I have Avast which has very good reviews though it seems to churn away for some time when you start the computer. I've also got malwarebytes that I downloaded after reading reccs for it. Good reviews on Cnet. http://www.cnet.com/1770-5_1-0.html?query=malwarebytes&tag=srch

I use Avira. It's much more lightweight than AVG, but the free version does generate pop-up ads once or twice a week that try to tempt you to buy the retail version.

That and SpyBot keep my computers squeaky clean.

Microsoft has a homecooked one, Microsoft Security Essentials, which is keeping my computer happy. I had a horrible experience with AVG blowing up, and friends had the same problem with Avast around the same time.
