Oh stop pouting like a drowned fish, Jack
Jul. 6th, 2009 12:33 amSo realising that this rumoured 'free time' was never really going to materialise any time soon, I finally just sat down and ground through all 3 TW BBC audio plays in one sitting. The result was that at time I did have half an ear on something else as 'multi-tasking' is definitely the order of the month right now, but anyway.
All in all? Thoroughly enjoyable, I'd give the trio of plays a definite thumbs up. Audio plays will never be TW's best medium just yet, it's still obvious that some of the guys are more TV actors than audio ones, though they are improved from their last outing.
1) Asylum - I gather that I'm in the minority here in that I enjoyed this one a lot. It definitely felt like the standalone of the group in that I can imagine other people who know little to nothing about TW being able to sit and enjoy what was going on. It felt like a a R4 afternoon play, just with a TW twist. Admittedly it might have been nice to actually learn something new about the TW crew, but eh, series 3 is on the way.
2) Golden Age - my least favourite, though individual components I did enjoy a lot. On their own the characters were all grand, I loved hearing the dry humour of team TW, the theme of the plot is always a good 'un, it's just... I don't know, this one just didn't connect with me.
3) The Dead Line - yes, of course this was my favourite. The plot itself was rather tenuous, but it scored the crucial points over the previous 2 with how it let team TW shine, I loved their characterisations in this. And yes, I did well up just a little during that monologue. So I'm turning into a right old sap. I blame hormones, old age, and if that fails then it's definitely the weather's fault *nods*
And with that, it's now T-minus 21 hours till new Torchwood - EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! :)
