Well that was surprisingly het. Also not as traumatising as I'd feared given that I still have Dis/Connected in my mind's eye. And ooh - is that character development I spy?
So, basically Arthur was either a dick or the comic relief in this ep. Which actually given that I'm still traumatised from that scene I'm pretty much fine with, I think I would have struggled if I'd had to accept one of Arthur's more noble and sacrificing moments.
As for Morgana... oooh... They are setting her up very nicely for what must eventually come. I think Gaius is acting out of the best intentions, but I can see that maybe, at some point Morgana will take his not confiding about Merlin and not confirming to her that she's at the very least a Seer as a snub for when she finally goes dark. Also I have nasty feeling that if/when Uther does find out, he is not going to react well, at least not initially. And I get the impression Morgana would not forgive easily so that may be where her final break from the Pendragons stems from.
And also, I think she knows. Or at least suspects about Merlin. At some point this is so going to come back to bite them.
And as for Merlin, oh Merlin ♥ You really are too sweet, utterly prepared to take the stocks for your prince so he can go off and court the visiting ladies. At this precise moment in time I am firmly convinced that you are actually too good for Arthur, who should have tried to save you from that last visit to the stocks, but you genuinely seem happy with your lot and I've no doubt Arthur will redeem himself eventually.
Finally, yes, there was a bucketload of het in the air this week, but it amuses me that it was the het that was the sign of eV0l, whilst it was true, sweet slashy love that finally saved Arthur's life. Also I loved that the boys both ask for each other first thing when they come round from unconsciousness. There may not have been much slashy, but when it came it came with a vengeance and then some.
Ah show :)

Date: 2008-11-01 10:16 pm (UTC)But the bit in the lake was slash heaven. Even with hubby declaring 'that Arthur really is a bit of a prat, isn't he? He's always getting himself into near death situations and Merlin always has to save him.'
Oh, hubby. Dear sweet slash-unaware hubby, you really have no idea.
I did like the bits in the bedroom, though. I'm writing a scene in the bedroom, and it's nice to know what it's supposed to look like.

Date: 2008-11-02 01:54 am (UTC)The lake... oh the lake and everything leading up to it. The fact that it's Merlin who almost gets Arthur to shake off the enchantment, and how he's determined to run regardless of 'buzzing'/concussion. Oh boys.
Arthur does seem to have been landed the damsel-in-distress role as of late, hopefully he'll get to prove a bit more useful in the upcoming eps since it's about time the boys did a swap and let Arthur be the one running through the trees to save his clueless manservant. I'm all for equal opportunity :)

Date: 2008-11-02 04:30 am (UTC)Merlin's concussion convo with Gaius was hysterical :D And ohhhh yes, so very key that Merlin -knowing Arthur's in danger- calls for his prince, but Arthur -just knowing he's... somewhere- still calls for Merlin regardless of the situation~ It was almost agonizingly sweet seeing smitten Arthur though, but how much of it is due to the sidhe's natural allure? His 'I'll be your friend forever' clashing so much with enchanted!Arthur's 'No, Merlin. You are my servant' makes me hope that it wasn't just magic the entire time...
Mmm... but Arthur did look good with those evil red eyes :D

Date: 2008-11-02 10:41 pm (UTC)Oh Merlin. He was such a sweetheart in this, though on the re-watch I do find it interesting how he can one second be so convincingly harmless and fluffy and lovely (his scene with Uther just before the first stock's visit was priceless!), but the instant someone lays a finger on Arthur then the gloves are off. He really did get very RAWRRRR in that final showdown, very ruthlessly and effectively gunning down the father and daughter without a second's hesitation. True love can and does make this guy a killer.
Heh, you're not the first person I've had say this. Yes, the red eyes were not entirely without their appeal *ahem* :)
