The case of Troy Davis
Sep. 10th, 2008 12:30 amCapital punishment is one of those issues that I'm unable to not take seriously (I'm utterly against it, in case anyone was wondering). So when this dropped in my inbox I did actually bother opening and reading.
From a quick search through various news archives, this story does appear to be legit. Troy Davis' initial execution date was postponed after several key witnesses recanted their evidence, in some cases claiming statements were taken under duress. The request for a new trial was denied, and a new execution date is set for later this month, with a clemency hearing set for 12 September.
It's the USA, it's Georgia, so obviously I'm a bit misplaced for this, but if any of the US folks are interested, or would consider sending an email, here is the link as given to me.
