See, here's the dilemma. I know how annoying it is when folks watch a show every week and then do nothing but bitch about how awful it is and the pain they've endured as a result. It's frequently commented on that if a show makes you that miserable, why don't you do everyone a favour and just stop watching. That way you are saved the aggro, and those who want to just squee can just squee unfettered.

So, in that vein, I have decided that I will try and be more positive in my thoughts on this show. You can take it as read, until further notice, that I deem this show truly abysmal, an insult to my licence fee, and setting new standards when it comes to 'scraping the barrel' depths. HOWEVER, obviously something must keep me watching beyond the Train-wreck syndrome, so for this week:

x. Actually I missed most of it, due to the parents calling. Still I think I got the gist.
x. I am edging towards the main lady's boss dude being my favourite character. His prissiness amuses me.
x. Dolly is also pretty entertaining. Not to mention as he was flying along, splashing through water, long coat flapping, I suddenly got a horrible, inexplicable thought of 'Oh good god, it's like what would happen if Captain Harkness was allowed to get mortal, leave Defending the Earth to someone else, and live out the rest of his days indulging a childhood hobby, perving on anything that moved, and drinking his liver into submission'. I think that version of Jack would be happy. And yes, I would have Ianto and co around there somewhere :)
x. The music. It is actually rather good music, I don't think it's being used well as a soundtrack, but whoever composed it did do a nice job. Several of the tunes so far this series have been distinctly pleasant on the ear.

In other news I am still twitching over the promo for next week's Gladiators. Looks like it'll be English Rugby vs American Football all over again. Excellent =)

OMG, #3 on your list - it could be, it COULD be! But you only said that because Dolly was groping Adrian Lester like a wild thing at the end there. And because it's HUGH BONNEVILLE, who really is charming and every week that he's forced to spout yet more bullshit and keepa straight face, my heart goes out to him.

It's a good point about not going back over and over to something just to be negative about it - I'd maybe pull my punches a bit if there was a single solitary sod on my flist who had even a fractional liking for it. As it is, I think there are only about four of us watching, and we're all rotating our heads counter-clockwise as we do.

I paused it at the start, went off to have a bath, and that way I could ff through all the interminable verbal foreplay between Adrian and the single most bovine-brained maddeningly annoying female character in the history of the UNIVERSE, and catch up with real time about three minutes before the credits rolled. It's still dreadful, it's still plumbing new depths of plot stupidity, and I'm STILL going tokick off about it every damn week until it ends, yes, because (in principle) that's Torchwood's production budget they're pissing into the wind there! Not to mention my licence money!

It would be a very twisted AU, more like a parallel tale as Hugh Bonneville is one of the very few good things about this series and I can't replace him with anyone. But this cracked tale is already taking shape in my head, mainly because I miss having Jack just chilling and happy and enjoying getting old and fat but every now and then still having to play the hero. My brain scares me sometimes...

Poor Hugh. He is so much better than this, but then again, it is a job, he can do it in his sleep, he's so obviously stealing the show, plus it's a regular paycheck. Possibly he's happy with the deal overall?

I try not to think about how much it cost them over, say, a few more eps of Torchwood. That way does lie genuine pissed-off-ness, which is not good as I'm determined to live in my little bubble of love / denial until RL forces me otherwise :)

Not that I want to encourage you down the path of stuttering madness, but... Maybe Dolly could be a kind of mortal clone of Jack, in the same way that Ten#2 sprouted out of the Doctor's spare hand plus a bit of TARDIS regenerative energy. Like, oh, Bilis Manger cut off Jack's dick at some point and threw it into his accidentally Grail-shaped regenerator...! That way, Ianto could run into him during some routine paranormal sighting trip to Bath, and find himself having inexplicable yet irresistible erotic thoughts around the world's second most incessantly flirty man?

Hugh's dialling it in effortlessly, as I'm sure Burn will. Still makes my sharp little teeth grind in horror, though!

YOU'RE NOT HELPING. Or maybe it's one of the mind transfer things, Jack's body could get left to Face of Boe and his mind could be kindly relocated to a spare comatose body that consequently miraculously awakens... ARGH WHY WON'T THE BUNNIES STOP *tries to hit them*

Yep, I'm sure he and Burn are / were happy for such a cushy ride and easy money, but still... I hope they get the urge to strike a bit deeper next time!

I watch it, and will continue to watch it until they kill it, because I've seen so many bad sci-fi shows that torture and mutilate science that it's actually a relief (and highly entertaining) to watch the Beeb torture and mutilate history (with a side dish of science - limescale preserves? Roman napalm grenades? Doomed Roman/Pagan love leading to the torching of Rome? REALLY?!) in the name of entertainment.

And Dolly. I love Dolly. And I wholly support your Dolly = mortal Jack premise. :D

Yes! This is a good, new cheerful viewpoint for me to take! :) This is simply equal opportunity, after all everyone seems to take it as read that physics is there to be rewritten, why should that joy be denied to the other disciplines - HAH! WELCOME TO PAYBACK!! *is smug*

Yes, I think this is Jack's reward for countless savings of the Earth. And just you wait, at some point they will reveal where he's got Ianto and Gwen stashed :)

I was also worryingly reminded of Jack by Dolly at various points, last week XD

Gugu Mbatha-Raw was so much better as Tish Jones, and Adrian Lester's been better in so many other things.

I am so happy it wasn't just me! :)

It continually astounds me the calibre of actors they keep on bringing in each week. I had quite decent hopes for this, I do actually like the leading lady as an actress, and I was also rather taken with Tish and was curious to see how she'd fare in her own show. Ah well, it's easy money for them I suppose and it's certainly getting them on the telly! :)
