For Narniaaa / Spartaaa!!
Jul. 13th, 2008 01:06 amI am officially terrapin-sitting for the next few weeks. The little dears are settling into their tank and getting spoilt by the mother who thinks they're looking traumatised after the long trip in the car. I think they're looking slightly fat, but each to their own :)
Today we went to see The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian - it quickly veered widely from the book for the majority of the film but was otherwise a fun easy-on-the-brain yarn. It's a long film (over 2hrs) and it was impressive that considering the cinema was packed to the gills with young 'uns, the entire audience remained silent and gripped throughout. One thing I do like about these recent Narnian adaptations is that the writers pick up on things that are normally brushed over and bring the full impact home. In the last film, I liked how they genuinely got across the horror of seeing your brother hurt. In this one, I liked that they made a point of the children realising that all their friends from last time were dead and gone and had been so for years. The wonder of how time moved differently was forgotten in the face of the slight guilt of not being there when things went wrong. I do like when a bit of angst is rescued from being forgotten :) Also in the book I always liked that one Telmarin (?) stepped forward to go through the gateway home and whose bravery was consequently rewarded by Aslan by being blessed with good fortune for his new life. Despite him only having about a sentence of his own, this guy has always been one of my favourites, so it was great to see him being given a bit of a backstory during the film so his final decision to go first really made sense.
I am also intensely amused that Reepicheep is voiced by Eddie Izzard - I thought he sounded familiar...
My other achievement of the day was watching the latest ep of Gladiators, the one where they get 'celebrities' to come on and compete for charity. Yes I've never heard of any of these guys before, but it was still fun watching them getting trounced (and in some cases tickled) by the gladiators. Plus of course... Spartan. Oh Spartan. He is looking rather brown at the moment and I wonder if they've topped up his fake tan, but in any case, he was on good form *happy sigh* It was intensely satisfying when he literally managed at the 11th hour to yank the guy off the wall by one foot, particularly when the guy had earlier taken the mickey out of his name. Yes I am getting far too attached to these guys *ahem*
Battleaxe also won me over yet again with her comment about being lucky to get her legs wrapped around one of the shapely female contenders. Oh show.
And yes, again I am in a tizz already about the next ep. For one thing we've only got 3 eps left *sniffle*, but also I have a nasty feeling Spartan might finally lose badly at an event, in any case, seeing the trailer of him pissed-off enough to chuck his helmet back into the pool doesn't bode well...

Date: 2008-07-13 01:45 pm (UTC)Also, um... three episodes? Where did you get that from? We should have *does mental math* 7 episodes left! 4 quarter-finals, 2 semis and the final. Plus there's the Legends special at some point (Vintage Gladiators! Huzzah!). I think you've miscalculated, pet... :)

Date: 2008-07-13 02:13 pm (UTC)I don't do mental maths, I let my calculator do it for me ;) I hope it's seven, I've just been told it's only 3 eps and frankly I've never got this whole quarter/semi-finals enough to calculate to check :)
Vintage Gladiators?! Like, they'll actually compete against the current ones? OOOOOOOH!! *bounce*

That's the deal, apparently the Legends special will air once this first series has played out the final. Judging by who's been involved with the new show, interview-wise, I expect Hunter and either Ace or Wolf to be competing for the men, and Jet and Lightning for the women. But don't hold me to that!

Date: 2008-07-13 02:54 pm (UTC)EXCELLENT!! Yes, assuming he's kept in shape I wouldn't be surprised if Hunter came back, though I've also seen Saracen give interviews about the relaunch. I think Wolf may also come back as Inferno and Jet were talking like he'd be back on set. Though sadly it looks like no Jet for a while. Zodiac and Scorpio were interviewed as well about the run-up to the relaunch, so they may be in the picture. Who knows - oh the anticipation! :)
