Showmasters have announced The Hub - an unofficial 3 day Torchwood convention..

Anyone know anything about these guys? Do they run a good con? Because, dudes. An actual convention. It even has its own pretty pretty website.

As in you need to know what's in your diary before you can commit? *crosses fingers and toes for you* If it's the first con, they'll probably put a bag load of tickets on sale to make sure they can get maximum profit in case this does turn out to be a one-off.

WHAT?!! You mean five in the morning surely - the best part of the cons are the parties! You have to be running on nothing but alcohol and sugar by the end and be left feeling like you need another week-long holiday at the spa to recover. WHAT ELSE IS MEANT BY BEING A FAN?!!

Sleep is for wimps anyway. A good con does not require sleep - pfft :)

Word of advice. Book the hotel now as it's small and will sell out very very quickly- worry about the ticket much much nearer to the event.

I went to their Heroes con - it was fine but I would argue that it was much more of a signing event than a proper convention (go to my journal and scroll through to the entry headed Eclipse)- also they lost most of their major guests so the fact that Naoko is currently announced means very little in the grand scheme of things. Sometimes they're lucky with their events in terms of guests - sometimes not (their recent Heroes event had virtually all of its major players pull out).

Bear in mind that in October John, Gareth and Eve are likely to be filming Torchwood and they'd have to pay John very very nice money to get him to go.

Ticket is likely to be about £85 and £195+ for the gold ticket which gets you the cocktail party & photoshoots.

Thanks for the heads-up about the hotel - it's been years since I've been to a con and even then I was forever being useless!

To be honest, assuming the Rift and Collectormania go ahead without cancellations, I'm not too fused about JB, GDL and EM - though obviously my heart would sing to the heavens if they did attend! It's highly unlikely Burn would come (he strikes me as a bit too shy/serious to willingly throw himself to the poodles for 3 whole days) but I live in hope I'll somehow get to meet either him and/or Naoko. Plus, you never know, there might be a moment of group insanity where they go 'Well I will if you will' - hey, I can dream! ;)

Preaching to the converted honey! I never go to a con purely for the guests - far too high a chance of them pulling out. But it will be a killer if people pay £175 for the top price ticket and then discover that the event has the sort of line up that other events routinely out on for far less (PC Andy, Rhys etc).

Well if you want to see Rhys Kai Owen along with the actor who plays PC Andy and the actress who plays Lucy Saxon are all at the Bad Wolf con in July.

Smaller guests are more fun but sometimes bless them their autograph isn't worth the cost of the photo you get them to sign. I think as long as they have one of the main cast it will be fine. I think the only one likely to be adverse to conventions is Burn but cost may now be an issue where John, Eve and Gareth are concerned - can't see Gareth being willing to flog his autograph for a tenner as he did at Memorabilia now that the Torchwood cast has been pared down to only 3 members!

One thing I learnt from the AtS cons (ah, those good old days) is that often the A-liners are not necessarily the most fun/insane guests :) I am incredibly excited that Naoko is announced, but as you guys say, never go for just the one guest so I won't be overly disappointed if they do cancel. Just so long as those left do know how to party till 2am if the need arises, or at the very least conduct a suitably mad Q&A.

In terms of non-regulars, it'd be great if Kai Owens did pop along. Or PC Andy, or ideally Mat Rippy or the lady who played Swanson. Ooh, or the lady who played Maggie in ADITD opposite Burn - she was excellent :)

Please god let there be decent music. I have been to one con where the party just tanked purely down to the most abismal music choice known to humanity. But then again, a bit of tipple can make mediocre tunes sound positively brilliant ;)

That said, I have also wound up some evenings sitting in my PJs, drinking tea, and discussing slash with great seriousness till the early hours. Depends on the mood really.

I got standard purely on the basis of the monthly budget. I do envy you your gold though! A group shot with all the guests will be brilliant =)
