Okay. My non-spoilery reaction?

Now that is what I call a finale.

Of course there were flaws and weaknesses, but by the time of the credits it felt like I really had seen a whole series and seen it come to a proper conclusion that was worth something.

I do love this show.

Owen.

Tosh.

Oh god.

My heart is shredded.

But what a perfect ending for the characters given what has happened so far this series. I love how this effectively, for me at least, turns the series on its head. I thought the story this series was the UST between Jack and Gwen. But with this. Oh no. The real star-crossed lovers were Tosh and Owen and it gives a whole new spin to the past 12 episodes. And the actors did their characters bloody proud.

Burn... damn. I'm guessing he must have wanted to walk because there is no way any TV show would off their own bat ask if they could write him out. He was brilliant at the end. Raging but still making it so believable that, yes, it would be Tosh who would bring him back to himself. And that almost smile as the vents opened... *sob*

Naoko. Apparently that was all done in one take. She wanted to do right by Tosh, and damn but did she. Hats off to her. If we get some kind of third series, I hope we see either her and/or Owen at least in a flashback or alternate universe. I think the characters should be allowed to rest in peace having died a hero's death, but this is Torchwood and I wouldn't be surprised if RTD and co. found a way to let the actors pop up a la Suzie or through a shapeshifter or AU universe etc...

So. We're left with Jack, Gwen and Ianto. Okay, as a group they're a little bit screwed as they've lost their skilled workers, i.e. their medic and their tech geru. That said...

TW couldn't go on without Gwen, they've driven it in all series how the institution needs her tie to real life. And Ianto... I guess he's the 'dark horse' if you will. Somehow he's survived this long, but of them all he also seems the most like Jack in that whilst he's upset, he wasn't the one who needed reassuring that it was possible to go on. GDL was right, by the series' end, Ianto really is Jack's loyal soldier.

Captain John... still around with a conscience. JM did good. The moment he said 'I love you' it was clear that there was more going on that might first appear. He was told to kill the team but actually, I'm guessing, the fact they all survived was no accident. He didn't kill them last time when he could, and this time round he used 'prototypes'. Great set-up for him to return when the writers can get the right storyline.

Oh, and that bomb being removed from his wrist. OW!!!

Grey... Great premise but in execution it didn't quite pack the emotional punch it could have. But then again, it didn't really matter. Which is a bit of shame for Jack as a character as this was a very important moment for him. However the real stars of this ep were Tosh and Owen. They were the ones who needed to pack the real emotional punch. And they did. So in my eyes. this ep was a success.

Now. Excuse me. I'm off to cry into my wineglass.

Just thought I'd tell you, as much as I hated the rest of the series (except the first ep), I found myself crying at the end of this one. My tear ducts are very prone to crying at most anything on the box, but I genuinly thought the deaths were done really well.

I agree with you that the Gray thing didn't have much potency but there was enough going on in the rest of the episode that it didn't matter as not a lot hinged on those scenes. For about a nano second I considered the possibility of writing Jack/John so I must have enjoyed it *g*

Normal service (me being cynical about TW) will resume shorty :-)

I just watched it -- would have liked to have waited but was too afraid of getting spoiled somewhere, LOL! -- and, well, ow. I pretty much agree with everything you've said. Now I just feel tired and want to go to bed. :-P
