Torchwood ep 7
Feb. 20th, 2008 11:01 pmMy show.
::bursts into tears::
Utterly daft, characters and plots conjured out of nowhere and disposed of in three seconds flats for the sake of explaining how the main plot manages to jump several stages at once. Brilliant.
Jack? Oh. Love Jack. He loves his team, all of them. That's my Jack.
I'm sure they did attempt to put in some plot somewhere, but overall my general, overriding sentiment is 'All hail Burn Gorman'.
What an actor. A bit like with They Keep Killing Suzie, he was occasionally given the most ridiculous lines and scenes, but he pulled it off. You so believed in Owen and his distress over the situation that you just went with it, and only afterwards realised it made no sense.
The scene with him and Jack in the cell. The lines. Dear god they were awful. But those two, Barrowman and Burn, frankly they could have reciting the phone book, I would still have been moved. Jack admitting that it wasn't just the code, Owen still snarking a little but obviously horribly torn between wanting to hang on to life and repulsed at what he had become.
Scene with the glove. Oh. Whatever. It was funny. Ianto had a hockey stick. Other stuff might have happened but mainly it was fun.
Tosh. Hmm. Not entirely sure where they're going to go with her and Owen. I like that she finally said it, but I'm genuinely curious to see what she does now.
Gwen googled Death, and actually found something useful. Good on her.
Martha and Ianto didn't really do much, though I did find it amusing that Ianto was utterly in the dark by the end about what the hell was going on.
To be honest, none of the team got to do that much. It was Owen and Jack's ep, and that was absolutely fine with me.
So we have and haven't kind of maybe got Owen back. We're not sure for how long, but I do like that it isn't right. He isn't alive - he's dead, can't appreciate life, and doesn't know how long he's going to be stuck like this. To be kind to the character, he's either got to somehow be restored, or he's got to be allowed to die again. I know which I'd prefer, purely on the basis that I think Burn was amazing and the show will be so much poorer if he does leave. Then again, it would be more in keeping with what is right in the world according to Torchwood if death really did mean death - although if they go this route, I hope they at least find a way to let Owen go peacefully.
The dilemma. I don't know what to hope for. AND THERE'S ONLY SIX EPISODES LEFT. MY NERVES CANNOT TAKE IT!
