Jan. 21st, 2008 08:48 pmYes, it is time for the results all of you have been waiting for. I can hear the silence of pure anticipation already. WARNING: The following statistics are subject to change and follow no logic whatsoever let alone mathematical common sense.
The Torchwood-related question was: What is the general consensus regarding use of icons made from future eps (i.e. screencaps from official Beeb trailers - not the more detailed 'Previews' that go online)?
The results are:
In 1st place - (a) To me it counts as a spoiler so yeah, it'd be nice if you didn't use it in general LJ entries. - WINNER!!
8 qualifying votes were cast, and of these 4 went for (a), giving (a) a landslide winning vote of 50%. There were also 2 votes for the candidate now termed 'Conditional (a)', and 2 votes for the new 'Coalition of (a) & (b)'. If these votes were included that would (a) a final majority of 80% (8 out of 10 votes). Well done (a)!
In 2nd place - (b) If it's from a trailer already aired on BBC1/2/3/4, you can use in general LJ entries.
Initially (b) would have been in joint second place with 'Conditional (a)' and 'Coalition of (a) & (b)' with only 2 out of 8 cast votes. But as the coalition votes were allowed to count for pure (a) the same courtesy must be extended to (b). Which gives (b) a final tally of 50% (4 out of 8 votes). So close (b), never mind.
In 3rd place - it is a tie! Two surprise candidates came in and now share 3rd place.
x. 'Coalition of (a) & (b)' - i.e. somewhere between (a) and (b). This claimed 2 votes. Which compared to (a) and (b) only gives it 25%, but still, not a bad showing.
x. 'Conditional (a)' - a splinter group of (a), standing for the beliefs of (a) on the understanding that the rules specifically apply to the UK air-date only. The principle of 'Personal Discretion' is the leader of this group, calling for a grace period of a few days to allow non-UK voters to catch up before all becomes fair in icons and fandom. They claim 2 votes also.
Honour-y mention - 'UK or US'.
This runner entered late into the battle but there are murmurings on the back benches that this could become a serious contender come the next round. Which airdate must have passed before an ep's contents are no longer deemed 'SPOILER'.
In conclusion, LB hereby announces that from henceforth spoilery-y episode-specific icons will not appear outside of an LJ-cut on this LJ until the ep is at least 24 hours old in the UK. (Conditions: Unless the icon is frankly so generic - e.g. Jack sitting his desk - that it could come from any series).
Thank you all, you have been a wonderful audience :)

Date: 2008-01-22 12:46 am (UTC)I'd be sad/disappointed if I got spoiled for something major.
I will be definitely trying to keep the big things behind a cut, it's just the smaller things that might slip through the mental filter. On the whole when it comes to posts I err on the side of caution as I remember how ticked-off I was when folks were spoiling me left-right-and-centre for the last ep of AtS. As for icons... sometimes I'm afraid common sense will go by the wayside for certain important, crucial key events. Like man snoggage. I think when Captain Jack Harkness aired icons were being made and used within 24 hours as the TW fandom imploded ;)

Date: 2008-01-22 01:07 am (UTC)I don't mind being spoiled for snogging, LOL!!! Snogging is good. I like knowing I can look forward to that. It's more plotty stuff I'd be worried about, like characters dying etc. Unless it's my favorite character dying permanently, in which case I need to be spoiled so I won't be traumatized! I know, no one could keep track, LOL. If you try, that's good enough for me, although if you spoiled me for something huge I'd likely take you off my reading list until the season was done airing, just as self-protection. *Hugs*
