I love being a turtle
Jan. 6th, 2008 09:19 pmFinally around to watching my main DVD snag from the sales: TMNT.
I remember watching these guys running around, saving the day when I was but a grub. My favourite was Raphael.
Today I sat down with a pint of cider and the moment the credits kicked in, I was happy to just wallow in nostalgia. The animation wasn't so great for the human characters, but the moment you introduced shadows and turtles, it was awesome :) Have to say that my love for Raphael is unchanged, what did change was I came out adoring all his family just as much. Michaelangelo was a sweetheart and so very much the baby of the family. Donatello might possibly be gay and also obviously the diplomat of the family trying to keep things peaceful, and bless him for being happy to step up and unobtrusively save the day with his tech super skillz.
As with Transformers, if you're watching this film, you're not really watching for plot or astounding acting. And with that mindset in mind, I'd happily rec TMNT to anyone curious.
I am now left with the desire to rewatch with one of the terrapins on my knee and point as the turtles leap across the rooftops 'See? That's what you could become if we could but find the right radioactive vat to drop you in.'

Date: 2008-01-06 09:53 pm (UTC)I was simultaneously a little in love with Donatello and Michaelangelo.
And I remember being rather miffed at the lyrics of the theme song of the first movie because one of the lines is, "Raphael, he's the leader of the group, transformed from the norm by the nuclear goop..." (and oh, my shame that I could write those lyrics from memory *grin*) and I was all, "Don't think so, Leo's the leader." I realise that having it that way works better for the tune, but dude! Canon! *grin*

Hehe, I can't remember the lyrics of the movie theme-tune, but I can pretty much sing the entire tune for the cartoon series from memories. Anyway, yes! Canon! And Raph does kinda get his day in the end.
