Because I'm useless at decisons - POLL!

Firstly I know next to nothing about computers other than the blue screen is never a good thing. I've been sniffing around the Dell site and given my budget, these are main contenders for the prestigious post of LB's Desktop.

[Poll #1018618]

Any other words of advice are always gratefully received =)

Get XP while you still can; Vista's a bitch.

The more RAM you have, the faster your computer. Those GBs are just going to be storage.

more RAM is better. I went from 256MB to 1GB and oh, god, the difference! It's amazing. Plus, with a dvd burner you can burn anything you want to keep.

Which remings me, I need to buy a couple more disc storage folders - the three I have now are just about full. *g*

Retail therapy is always good for the soul. *g*

I recommend Verbatim's DVD+R format for burnable media. You can get them through Amazon on several sizes of spindle but I try to buy in 50s or 100s as they cost less per disc that way.

If the computer comes with Nero as the DVD burning software, make sure you set it up to verify the data after burning, to make sure it's burned off correctly. It takes longer to verify than it does to burn, but it's well worth the extra wait.

Finally: YAY! new computer!

Definitely go with XP. It's the lesser of Windows evils compared to Vista. I also agree to go with as much RAM as you can afford. That tends to be key in how well your computer will perform. I'm currently waiting for Dell to put their memory cards on sale again so I can up mine some more.

Vista is a little bitch, go for XP.
