Here we are again
Jul. 7th, 2007 08:57 pmSo two years ago today we were all scrambling for phones/email as we tried to do a namecheck of those known to live/work in central London, Ken Livingstone made a very good speech, and my godfather commented that overall he was awed by the spirit being shown by the Brits in the aftermath.
Flash forward to today and, well. Bombs still being made and detonated, people still being imprisoned, wars ongoing, hatred continuing to be voiced, liberties and rights being impinged. So nothing so radically different in the global scheme of things. Fangirls/boys continue to squee/rant over plots and casting, Paisley agreed to share with Sinn Fein, Barrowman and Gill had their civil ceremony in Cardiff, Sir Derek Jacobi caused the DW fandom to explode and Alan Johnstone today gave his parents a hug.
In short, no, the world is far from perfect, but we're still here, still trying, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I particularly liked the BBC News site's caption for this pic (I can't link to the specific pic page, sorry!) - "After being released Alan Johnston could at last enjoy some of the privileges he had been denied in captivity - a haircut, for example, and a nice cup of tea."
Always good to get those post-trauma priorities acknowledged, I think!
