Despite work being a bit of a pig's ear, the rest of the world has taken on a rosy tinge today.

(1) Alan Johnstone freed. Such a good way to start the morning, his parents were glowing on the news report at lunchtime.

(2) Pics from TW filming. Yes, the beloved emo!twiglet is there, unfortunately a little blurred but still delicious in his suit and overcoat *pets* Jack and Gwen also successfully make me feel small, fat and ugly by looking frankly unbelievably gorgeous in their pics. Oh Torchwood, why must you be away so long, why?! *whine*

(3) Casting Confirmation for Season 4 Doctor Who. I'm happy and I think there's great potential here. I have to admit I've never watched the Catherine Tate show, it's just never been my cup of tea. But I loved Donna on the Christmas Special, and I saw her also on an old ep of Marple. I think she'll be fine and I'm curious to see how/why Donna decides to go with Ten. I'm almost wondering if she'll expand on her advice at the end of last ep - namely that the Doctor needs someone with him to tell him when to stop. In other words, a companion who goes along not so much because they're all supa dupa excited about time and space and seeing the stars, but more because they're worried about their friend and don't particularly want them off running risks on their own. It'd be an interesting change of dynamic.

(3) Jack/Ianto Fic Rec. I'm always wary of trying fics by writers I don't know, but something about the icon and summary got me and all I can say is thank god. Gorgeous use of the second person POV. It's first-time Jack/Ianto, but not overly sappy, not overly angsty, instead it's just how it should be, with too much known and unknown history between them, slightly ambiguous motivations, yet still steamingly hot NC-17. The prose is lovely, and the writer has a great touch of Ianto's dry humour throughout, especially when observing the rest of his teammates.

re: the first 3) - I am so glad there's at least one other person who isn't convinced that this casting decision has ruined series four for them. I loved Donna, even if she was slightly grating at times, but come on! Has no one else heard of something called "character development"?

Seriously, I was so happy, and then all I saw was "YOU'VE RUINED MY LIFE, RUSTY!" all over my flist. You're right, though, Donna has the potential to bring out a whole new side of the Doctor, and I am really, really looking forward to seeing how she does it. I will be annoyed if she too falls in love with Ten, though. We don't need that again, Donna is definitely stronger than that.
