Here come the drums here come the drums
Jun. 25th, 2007 01:20 amSo. Doctor Who.
You know what, stuff musical street cred, I liked that shameless final song and how it went with the final scene. So there.
I have to admit I was a bit underwhelmed this week, but then again I knew I would be because, honestly, how on earth do you top Jacobi's big scene last week.
One person though did utterly steal my heart. Again: Martha. FTW. How much do I love this girl.
I have a feeling that this ep will be one that I'll love a little more each time I watch it. Cos, yeah, definitely rewatching.
Jack - didn't really get to do much this week. I adored the little nods to Torchwood and his team. I'm also hoping the Doctor will let him keep the teleporter because how much fun could they have with that next TW season =)
Saxon - Simms played perfectly what they asked for and got a lot more out of the script than you would have thought possible. Whilst it was fun watching him going evil and manic, my favourite scenes were the more quieter ones where he's more subtle, like the phone conversation. I have no doubt at some point he and the Doc will have a proper talk of sorts, and then I will be in seventh heaven because Simms vs. Tennent is so going to worth watching.
Oh oh! And the jelly babies. Was it jelly babies or jelly beans? Was it the same as Paul McGann's Doctor was nibbling on the whole time?
Doctor - "I'm not here to kill him. I'm here to save him." Otherwise not much unusual going on, but I did love that line and how the Doc sees the Master as someone in need of help. An eight year old driven mad by the Time Vortex. Ouch. Ooh, and before I forget, I liked his anger at Jack's cautious revelation he works for Torchwood. Actually, adding on...
Jack - his defending of TW to the Doc. LOVED THAT. Yes, he loves the Doc, who doesn't. But you can tell that if the Doc ever went for TW (not that he would, not like that, I know) Jack would be the first to get between the timelord and the TW crew. TW isn't just a time-filler until the TARDIS comes along, something not entirely clear from the TW show, and it was good to see Jack finally making that clear. (Apparently Jack referred to the team as 'friends', I missed that, but if so insert multiple hearts here :) )
Mrs Saxon - love her. Can't get a handle on her and just what is driving her, is it love, it is power hunger, is it something else. But damn, her and Saxon together, great pair.
Martha - admittedly I do think she was being overly harsh at telling the Doctor it was 'all his fault', but then again she's scared shitless for her family so you can expect/forgive some harsh rash words. I adore that when things did go sour, her reaction was to try and sort things out herself, not just to run to the Doctor and ask him to do something. She loves the Doctor, respects him, but that doesn't stop her snarling 'You don't get to tell me what to do.'
And on a shallow note, how amazing did she look in next week's promo. Damn.
Ending on a far more shallow and silly note. Team Torchwood. Trekking through the Himalayas. Dear god, I would pay to see them all aching and pissed at each other and Owen bitching about the greenery, Tosh trying to get the GPS to work properly whilst Ianto and Gwen try to figure out what's for supper. They'd either kill each other or bond by the end, rather like Brat Camp except without the film crews.
Oh, and remember how Jacobi's Prof/Master winced last ep and hoped that Utopia's coffee would be less sour? I like to imagine he has actually met Team TW, and purely on the strength of Ianto's amazing coffee-making skills decided to pack them off to the Himalayas rather than keeping them around to get wiped out with the Paradox Machine/Floating Disco Balls show down. Also, I'd imagine that considering they're a covert organisation who are known to the Police, the Sun, geeks like Eugene, and drive around in a SUV emblazoned with 'TORCHWOOD', it can't have taken a lot to convince him that the team weren't really that much of a threat :)

Date: 2007-06-25 10:44 pm (UTC)I thought so, but I think there was a reference to TW when the Doc and co all pile into Martha's room which I missed as the mother and father chose that moment to hold a loud conversation in front of me. I love family ;)

I guess I need to rewatch that ep.

Date: 2007-06-25 07:35 am (UTC)That lil part where the Doc says imagine being in love with someone and they don't notice and then Jack turns to Martha and says you too huh? *wipes tear*
Did you see JB in some quiz show later that night, he was very naughty :P

I do love Martha, and oh yes, I thought it was utterly understandable Martha snapping like that, and actually I do like that if anything she seems stronger than Jack when it comes to facing up to the Doc. Jack was so cautious when revealing TW, whereas I can if Martha had been in a similar situation she would have been a lot less apologetic.
Heh, I've heard about it, I must download it and watch as it sounds pure Barrowman...
