There's been confirmation of another actor who will guest star in Season 2 of Torchwood.
I have to admit my immediate reaction upon reading was "Oh god no." Which actually surprised me since I do think James Marsters is a very decent actor. The problem is that the two times I've been in proximity to him (at Collectormania and one of his gigs) I was utterly disgusted by the poodles that surround the guy. Which isn't his fault. But now I think JM, I think poodles, which equals "Urgh." An unfortunate association but one I've yet to deprogramme.
Ah well, I'll wait and see, I am curious to see what kind of role they'll give him.
*rereads* I do seem to be full of sour grapes today. Apologies, I promise to keep on my LJ and not bring it over to yours.

Date: 2007-06-18 10:45 pm (UTC)That's the third bit of TW news I've come back to today that's filled me with gloom. Maybe it's post-holiday blues?

Date: 2007-06-18 10:57 pm (UTC)And so long as they give JM a role he can play, then he will play it well.
And as for gloom... Oh god, do you refer to the Eve Myles interview? I'm trying to remain logical but since I am at least 80% illogical fangirl a little part of me may have curled up and wept just a little...

Date: 2007-06-18 11:16 pm (UTC)Plus Utopia, which was great entertainment and full of canon-exposition fun, but I think pretty much blew a hole through any prospect of our ship ever coming home safe and well. Sorry. It's just that each little new bit of info seems to be another thumbs-down for what I want to have happen next year, what I'd like even if it is a bit unlikely - and nothing that's come out so far has ever been a thumbs-up. I read someone today referring to the Jack / Ianto thing in s1 being maybe nothing more than a red herring / false trail, and my heart hit my boots but it does have that feeling of being more and more likely.
And now that I've sploodged gloom all over your blog, I'll... um, go back to the corner!

Date: 2007-06-18 11:28 pm (UTC)I have to admit, I don't even think I would mind an unhappy ending so long as there was some kind of nod that the Jack/Ianto of Season One wasn't all just fun/part-time shag/rebound/red herring. The usual 'It would have been lovely if only we could have caught each other at the right time' kind of deal - that I could live with.
I did love Utopia, though mainly for Jacobi and the last 10 minutes. Though oddly enough it didn't sink the ship for me as much as I expected. Jack seemed happy again, and frankly if he arrives back to Cardiff with that same energy, as someone so delicately put it, Ianto won't be able to sit down for a week :)

Date: 2007-06-19 12:13 am (UTC)As for Jack coming back full of, erm, beans - I can see that only too well. But I'd have thought Ianto would react with unadulterated horror at the thought of being just another prop in the infinite line of warm willing creatures Jack can't wait to stick his new-found joie de vivre into. I reckon he'd have put up with the suspicion that he really was just the part-time shag - as ling as he was *THE* part-time shag, not one from the many. Wouldn't that drive too huge a dent through his sense of self-justification, of being needed and better than the rest? If Jack comes back revving to spread himself far and wide, Ianto will run a mile.
Or maybe I just hope he'll run a mile, because the idea of him being that desperate for any old crumbs from Jack's Banquet O'Leurve is just too depressing for me to encompass right now.

Date: 2007-06-19 08:27 pm (UTC)I honestly am not at all sure how Ianto will be when TW returns. On the one hand he tries to be very proper and keep his eye on the bigger picture/greater good, so for example he won't risk opening the Rift even if it could mean losing Jack and he will go for a handshake rather than a hug. BUT, on the other, well, Brokeback Mountain moment? I can imagine him missing Jack and maybe pining a little, but also realising that he is pining and not that get in the way of his duties. Even when Jack does return, just because Ianto does maybe still like him doesn't mean he's going to think it's a good idea that they restart anything. And actually, I'd hope Jack would have come to same realisation after his time with the Doctor.
But once they're both comfortable with that equilibrium I can see Jack shamelessly and cheerfully starting up comments (for all the team) and him and Ianto returning to the easy snark they used to have in the early eps.
Of course if it really was down to me I'd then have that develop into something more, but I have a sinking feeling RTD and co might have other plans. In which case, stuff it, still like the show, and I'll fanfic what's missing :)

I remember slash. I used to write that, didn't I?

Date: 2007-06-19 08:30 pm (UTC)Slash. Hmmm. I reckon you still got it in you, it's more than just a fic genre. Just you wait until you get a show again where the two main male protagonists aren't, you know, related ;)
