After the usual perusing of LJ, I find myself with a question for those who can remember it.

Doctor Who. The end of RTD's first series which saw the exit of Nine along with a shedload of Daleks.

The folks who died fighting the Daleks - when they got hit by the laser thingies, did they slump to the ground or were they vapourised? (ETA: Speculation in comments but nothing explicitly spoiler-y.)

I'm pretty sure they all did the same thing Jack did - i.e., kind of strobed with that x-ray effect and then slumped to the ground, corporeally whole but dead.

So, what's the possible spoiler that you have, I hope, not been trawling around OG trying to find spoilery fragments for just like me this evening?

Sadly nothing spectacular - it was in a comment to a comment somewhere, an interview was referenced where apparently Barrowman was very happy about us learning lots of new fun stuff about Jack and having past questions answered, including why he wasn't vaporised by the Dalek ray.

Which was all very nice and potentially thought inducing except, like you, I thought not being vaporised was the norm for the humans in that ep. I have to admit I quickly backed out of the thread because I honestly don't want to be spoiled for too much of Jack's personal tale on DW. Torchwood is fair game because I have to wait SIX BLOODY MONTHS (and breathe) until I learn anything concrete, but DW I think will benefit from a bit of mystery :)

no, the vaporising ray was actually a transport ray, it didn't kill you at all. so if you didn't disappear in a cloud of ash, you were dead.

Yep, that's what I thought I remembered, but it's always good to check with the all knowing LJ. Ah well, the speculation continues! =)
