Breathe that country air, breathe it!
Mar. 4th, 2007 11:56 pmSo I'm back from yet another weekend in the country, wherein the mother was determined that nothing blows away the remnants of a cold more effectively than a gentle hike across the hills. Which to be fair was semi-correct, the hacking up of a lung only commenced once the ground levelled and I did feel better if bloody exhausted when it was all over. There was also bountiful wine, which always raises the spirits, hurrah!
Anyway, after trawling through three days worth of FL, my main Doctor Who/Torchwood highlight is: Footage of filming with Ten, Martha and Jack. No sound, but very good quality. Two camera angles of what is presumably one longish scene. Potentially spoilery and thus
So my guess is that that was the scene wherein Jack finally leaves the Doctor to return to his Torchwood team (*dance of joy*).
Now when Torchwood ended, whilst I was pleased as punch that Jack was going to return to DW, one of my main wishes was that Jack would choose to leave the Doctor the second time. Given that he spent the whole of TW Season 1 moping over the guy I can buy that Jack needs the closure, much like poor old Sarah Jane, but it had led to it being hard to believe in any real team spirit given the so-called team captain continually reminded everyone that there was no-one important for him in the TW timeframe. So my wish was that Jack should return to the Doctor, sort what could be sorted, get some closure, and then choose to say a (regretful) good-bye (again like Sarah-Jane) and return to Torchwood in a state fit to actually emotionally bond with his team.
And going from the footage, if that is his parting scene, then it could be going that way. At least it looks like he's the one deciding that now is the time to go.
As for the immortality? Well my money is on the Doctor not being able to completely 'fix it'. Which in terms of TV is useful since it gives more to the TW writers to play with if their leading man is still slightly invulnerable. But it also, to me, explains why the Doctor does whatever he does to Jack's wrist thingie. My reading was that the Doctor after checking Jack really didn't want to stay with him, gave Jack the ability to 'call him' or something. So if at some point in the maybe very distant future Jack finds himself alone, the Doctor will come for him. Yes, I am aware this is wild wild speculation, but let my brain relax here.
Oh god the salute. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! *cringe*
The Martha going 'OMG OH NO', and then Martha and the Doctor both going 'OMG LOL!' Nope, I have no idea what on earth is going on there. In my happy insane fangirl mind, it somehow involves the magic lift, a hostile response from TW3, and Jack ending it by sweeping Ianto up into his arms *happy sigh* Yes I know that won't be at all what will happen, but hey let a fangirl dream for a while. RTD and others have said that aside from Jack, no characters will be crossing over between TW and DW, so I'm guessing we really will have to wait until 2008 if it does turn out that the Doctor and Martha were watching a genuine Torchwood reunion. *twitch*
So, in summary.
* Jack chooses to leave.
* The Doctor does something sonic to Jack's wristie thing; some form of future communication?
* Something happens upon Jack's return that makes Martha and the Doctor laugh in disbelief.
31st March for the first DW ep, right? Why so so far away...

Date: 2007-03-05 01:52 am (UTC)God, that was very rambly! Sorry! Anyway, yeah the wrist thing has to be some kind of quick-dial fix, because that also eases Jack's ability to separate from the Doctor, knowing he's not reduced to hanging around for decades hoping he'll turn up.
I'm also very much hoping that the OMGs! from the Doctor and Martha were about some kind of team reunion - and, you know, it's actually not impossible for that to happen! What if, on DW, we never actually *see* what it is that Jack's doing and that they'r reacting to? Jack is a character who's known for his flamboyance in the DW-verse, so it's very possible for him to say to the two of them, "Well, I'm off home - want to take bets on whether it'll be a welcome kiss or a slap in the face?" And then he goes off towards the lift or the Information Office, and on DW all we'd see would be the OMG-reactions, then Martha and the Doctor head off back to their own adventures... and all us Torchwood fans are left even more wound up than we already are, about what actually happened! And then the first ep of TW can show the same scene from the POV of the team (jointly or severally) seeing Jack walk towards them, grinning, and....
That's what I rilly rilly want Santa to bring me, please! Especially if it's a big kiss AND a slap!

Date: 2007-03-05 02:13 am (UTC)I utterly wouldn't put it past RTD to give us one bastard of an ending when it comes to Jack on DW, i.e. to leave us hanging until 2008 before we find out what caused the 'OMG? LOL!' reaction. He's a cruel cruel man.
Dear Santa, seconding the above request, one slap/punch and one big reassuring kiss really would be just grand, I promise to be a very very good fangirl all year...

Date: 2007-03-05 01:55 am (UTC)I've been watching the odd episode of DW on BBC3... I still can't get into that show at all. I want to watch the devil one (because... yeah, hi, THE DEVIL) but I probably won't watch it again until Jack's back.

Date: 2007-03-05 02:15 am (UTC)To be fair I think the first 'new' season with Christopher Ecceleson *eyes spelling* is still the best of the bunch so far, best place to start. Did you catch the eps where Jack first appeared on DW? And don't worry, I don't think you'll be the only one skipping the odd ep until Jack finally returns to the TARDIS =)

Date: 2007-03-05 02:22 am (UTC)Only one of them so far :( My approach to DW has basically been watching the odd episode here and there, since the pilot (which I watched when it was first on). I dunno, I just can't seem to get hooked. To be fair, the only reason I started watching TW was John Barrowman, and I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed the show (although still not enough to get truly sucked in). I'm definitely all about the shallow :)

Date: 2007-03-05 02:30 am (UTC)The Nine finale of DW also has Jack at one point stark bollock naked in front of millions. It's a classic moment =)

Date: 2007-03-05 08:57 am (UTC)You know you're not unlike a drug addict when it comes to DW and Torchwood, so I recommend this, re-watching the lot, whilst you burn them on to CD for me :P
That should last you until 31st!

Date: 2007-03-07 12:38 am (UTC)Can your 'puter play DVD discs as well as simple CD ones? I'll definitely work on getting the TW files burnt to disc for you, the prettiness of Jack and Ianto and Tosh must be shared! Plus, pterodactyl! BBQ sauce! =)

And I'm wondering if Jack mooned the Doctor and Martha at the end.
