Torchwood finale
Jan. 17th, 2007 11:22 pmThis evening me and the mates finally got around to watching the last two eps of Torchwood. Well, to be fair, me and A_ had already seen both, but we were prepared to make the noble sacrifice and rewatch to try and recreate the atmosphere for dear M_.
My favourite (non-spoilery) reaction from them was: 'Oh, he's gorgeous when he hasn't got his jacket on!' Yes, it only took them 12 eps, but both friends have now joined me in Ianto!love. *is proud*
A_, like me, likes her slash. M_ isn't bothered one way or another, but despises the film Ghost. However, they both agreed that of the two kisses in the last two eps, they far preferred the fleeting Jack/Ianto one. (In fact they were both in tears of laughter during the dance scene.) It seems that whilst A_ at least appreciated the prettiness of Jack/Jack (*melts at memory*), the swelling violins and the bright white shining over the pair were just too cheesy for my dear friends. Well, fair enough. Personally I still get dust in the eye whenever someone plays A Nightingale Sang in Berkley Square... *sob*
They both cheered when Ianto shot Owen, but both were equally pleased that he survived for series two. A_ particularly liked the moment where Owen finally breaks down in front of Jack, though she complained that, again, the scene was ruined by too-loud, intrusive music.
M_ almost went through the roof when we heard the TARDIS. She is also slightly scared for the Earth considering Owen managed to almost end the world when he was left in charge for one night and, probably, has now got that responsibility again but for a slightly longer period.
Ianto got an actual round of applause. The world was ending. The Hub coming down around their ears. Yet he still remembers to pick up Jack's coat as they flee to the surface.
We all agreed the Billis is a creepy so-and-so, and are rooting for him to return as a semi-recurring nemesis in Series 2.
GWEN! A_ was rooting for Jack to shoot her, but we've endured the Mary-Sue of Fred and Gwen had our support by the end. Another point of unity was the view that Eve Myles is a great, great actress who pulled off Gwen's heartbroken scenes in a way that would have been poignant had it not been - yep, you guessed it - for the really annoyingly loud music.
M_ wishes Ianto to wear the waistcoat without the jacket more often. A_ wishes Jack to choose to leave the TARDIS and return toIanto Torchwood. We would also like a fic with the summary: 'Jack finally moves on and realises new love makes a great cup of coffe.'
Yes, we have deep deep discussions at these evenings of ours :)
In other news, I might just have to cave and buy OK! Magazine tomorrow. Though if I do, it will entirely not be for such a shallow reason as there's apparently a bunch of pics from Barrowman and Gill's civil ceremony including what appears to be an adorable shot of all three Torchwood lads grinning like loons together...

Date: 2007-01-18 01:05 am (UTC)Oh, and Jack/Ianto. Their love is so domesticated. Jack has just been shot, the world is ending, the Hub coming apart at the seams, yet Ianto still pauses to pick up Jack's coat on the way out *smishes him*

Date: 2007-01-18 01:18 am (UTC)We're rooting for Jack to go off in the TARDIS, get closure with the Doctor a la Sarah-Jane (and a kiss along the way would not be a bad thing) and then he should choose to return to Cardiff and hopefully walk straight up to Ianto and smooch him by way of greeting. Yes, we are aware this is highly unlikely, but until the new series starts and crushes our dreams, we live happily in denial =)

Date: 2007-01-18 01:41 am (UTC)And crossing fingers and toes for a little more kissage next series. Though in an interview Barrowman mentioned how not all the cast want to do kissing with tongues and he respects that boundary. *glares at Ianto* He better not have been talking about you, my lad, because my fannish heart has grand hopes for you next season...

Date: 2007-01-20 12:09 am (UTC)I may also have accidentally bought a copy of OK magazine and there may or may not have been squee over the compleely adorable pic of JB with GDL where you just *know* that something very rude was said to produce such huge grins. Rumours at this time are unconfirmed... [whistles]
You're one of the few people on my flist who 'gets' TW in the same way as me. I may be hanging around here a lot over the coming months. Just tell me to go home if I get in the way!

Date: 2007-01-20 12:17 am (UTC)*cough* Adtually ditto, somehow a copy of OK! found its way into the basket when we popped out to buy our sandwiches. Can't imagine how that happened.
And oh GUH. My co-worker spent the rest of the day sulking after seeing a pic of the happy pair: 'Oh that's horrible; They're both gay. That's not fair!' But yes, I was a melted puddle of AWWWWW/SQUEEEE at the photo of GDL/JB/GB *happy sigh* The 'Awww' because the sad fannish part of my brain was going 'When did we last see Ianto laugh like that,' and the rest of me... Yes, I dread/love to think what filthy comment of John's got both men hanging off him and laughing like that. Oh Torchwood...
Hang around all you want, the wait until series two starts out is going to be horribly lonely otherwise =)
