Just finished watching the BBC's newest version of Dracula.

Er. Oh my god. That was truly, truly awful. Though at least it did pass through that point where it is so bad it is entertaining. Me, the spawn and mates of the spawn sat there laughing through it.

*shakes head* Just... oh my god. What were the writers thinking.

Glad someone else agrees it was rubbish! I watched cos it got a good review in the Guardian.

It got good reviews?! HOW? I mean, seriously, was the reviewer on crack? Although if he gave it a good review in that it's so awful it's fun to watch, then yes, fair enough. But honestly. The script, the fact they didn't stick in any way to the book. I think one of the highlights had to be Mina just screaming a la Dawn 'Go away, go away, GO AWAY!'

It was hideous. Marc Warren was woefully miscast, over-powdered and badly dyed and Mr Syphilis should have told the whiny wifey that he wasn't screwing her because he wanted her to not be scabrous. And I just wanted to slap Doctor Harelip because he jumped to so many conclusions on less than no evidence.

Hideous. It's the only word I can come up with.

Now I need to watch Gary Oldman do it right. *digs out DVD*

To be fair I do think Marc Warren did as good as he could with what he was given. We all agreed that he was genuinely creepy, it's just... well, yes, he was miscast for that role.

It was beyond belief one way or another!

Our paper this morning seemed to think it was rather good - but then I suspect newspaper TV critics think any old sh**te will do when it comes to SF/fantasy/horror.

I rather suspect that too, I do wish I could point out to critics that actually SF/Fantasy/Horror fans have their expectations as much as fans of any other genre. Ah well.

It started out reasonably alright, at least in terms of sticking to the book. And then it just went off all on its own. Honestly, it was like watching a train wreck, all plot splintering but you couldn't look away. WHERE THE HELL WAS QUINCY! WTF HAPPENED TO ARTHUR? WHAT THE HELL WAS WITH THAT OCCULT DUDE IN A BLACK HAT?!! *sulks*

Well yeah, it started out ok, but then they KILLED Jonathan Harker off in the first 30 minutes! And WHERE WAS RENFIELD? WTF with the underground cult? I DON'T UNDERSTAND BBC. Bah.
