Jesus but Franz have a good publicist
Oct. 26th, 2006 12:03 amFor those of you who aren't yet aware, Alex has been writing a rather good food column in The Guardian for the past year, discussing dishes encountered whilst on tour. It's been compiled and published as a book next month. A fact that will be rather hard to escape since, from the looks of things, their publicist has managed to nab spots on The Guardian, The Times, GQ, Radio 4, Radio 5, The Culture Show, etc etc. They're taking over the airways... I'm impressed, and also slightly amused because I knew Alex couldn't bear to do nothing for three months *shakes head*
I swear. This man never sleeps.
Look out for newspaper interviews and coverage in the following over the next week: The Daily Telegraph (Saturday 28th), The Sunday Herald and The Sunday Times Scotland (Sunday 29th). There will be an extract from the book in The Guardian G2 (Wednesday 1st). Alex will also be interviewed in The Observer and The Times. There will also be extracts, interviews and reviews in these magazines: BA Highlife. Harper's Bazaar, Elle, EasyJet In-flight, Traveller, Arena, Easy Living, Esquire, GQ, Q, and many others.
Alex will be on radio w/c 7th November, interviewed on Front Row, BBC Radio 4, Simon Mayo, BBC Radio 5, BBC Radio Scotland Cover Stories, Nemone at Lunchtime BBC Radio 6. Alex will also be reading extracts from the book on XFM's Lauren Laverne breakfast show. Sound Bites is also being serialised on BBC Radio 4 w/c 11th December as Book of the Week, read by Alex himself.
Last but not least, Alex will appear on BBC2's The Culture Show with a piece on endangered British foods!
I swear. This man never sleeps.

Date: 2006-10-26 12:25 am (UTC)Though I suppose being able to lie in bed listening to Alex reading you a bedtime story for a week, albeit more an anacdote, isn't the worst thing to happen in the world ;)

Date: 2006-10-26 12:27 am (UTC)True story: I once fell asleep on a school minibus because Alex was talking on the radio (about Belle & Sebastian, I seem to recall) and his voice is apparently very soporific.

I have to admit, he writes brilliantly, he can interview very well (depending on how good the interviewer is on reining him in), but I'm not entirely sure how good he'll be at pure narration. I've only really heard him do the Kraftwerk docu-thingy. So we'll see...

Date: 2006-10-26 12:52 am (UTC)My parents are trying to force-feed me Lemsip, but as I really hate Lemsip, it's not working so well. :P I'm just hoping it'll be better tomorrow (seeing the Long Blondes, yay).

Date: 2006-10-26 01:02 am (UTC)Lemsip is kinda foul, though it does seem to work around 70% of the time, although that could just be a placebo effect. *ponders* Ooh, live gig! Hope you have a great time! Tomorrow I have a three hour drive, and a four day stay in a land with no mobile reception and zilch internet. In other words I'm off to see the grandparents. My gran makes a killer cake, though, so I can't complain ;) Anyway, early start tomorrow, so I must bedulate. Night! =)

Date: 2006-10-26 12:29 am (UTC)And I seriously am impressed he got a slot on Radio 4. I mean, yes, you get Jarvis Cocker and Franz on The Culture show or some documentary thing from time to time, but... book of the week, I mean, BOOK OF THE WEEK?! *hands* IT'S EVERYWHERE, YOU CANNOT ESCAPE!
