Blood Lust
Oct. 14th, 2006 11:13 pmI have rediscovered that the best way to watch SPN is after three glasses of wine, that way what normally would annoy the heck out of you just become niggles. You may even enjoy part of it.
I've been told I'm a really annoying person to watch films/TV shows with, as I can't help but try and work out the endings even before the title credits finish. And someone had mentioned that this ep had vampires. So yes, I had guessed the 'twist' before the Impala even rounded the hill. ('Ooh, hookie-blade thing! But we've had hook man already so, QED, probably a hunter, and there's vamps, ah, let me guess these vamps lead the veggie lifestyle, meaning we might have 'Attempt At Moral Dilemma', fun!) Though speaking of, great to see the car back again. I repeat, someone needs to vid Dean/Impala.
I love that Dean is bordering going off the rails. They drew back again this ep, but I'm hoping it hasn't gone away. I rather like the shift in dynamics when all of sudden it's Sammy having to watch out for Dean, and Dean who's becoming the liability. The look Sammy gave Dean (alright, I admit it - I did grin at the 'Only Dean gets to call me that', that's brotherly love for you) when they rescued Gordon was lovely. Hopefully it won't be the last time Padalecki gets called upon for such glances because, as I say, I do love my twisted, shaded in dark grey, messed-up characters (Hello Wes, hello Connor *pets*) :)
Ooh, and yes, loved the punch, nice show of oh how things have changed: Dean didn't flinch from it or look at all apologetic. Sammy didn't burst into tears or get distracted from telling Dean they might be barking up the wrong tree. Of course it changed later (the sniffle in the car!), but still, the scene itself was good. Dean, please go dark, that way lies fun and I think you would carry it off well. Leave the emo-ing to Sam.
I really like Gordon, I hope we see more of him. Yes so the storyline was lifted straight off of Gunn and countless other characters, but that's because it's a tale that doesn't get old quickly. Not entirely sure why they tried to delay the whole 'I killed my sister, woe!' thing as it was blatently obviously, but it was nice seeing the Winchesters' reaction to that final chapter. Poor Gordon, the vamp effectively killed him when he turned his sister, the hunt is all that's left. Of course killing his sister wasn't easy, you could hear the bluster and years of self-conditioning in that statement. He has no choice now but to believe in black and white otherwise what's left for him.
I am glad that both he and Dean got to share a wee bit in the bar. I don't see it particularly as out of character for either of them to open up like that, it's rather human I think. THey're never going to say those things to anyone who knows them, who has an opinion they may vaguely value, but to an effective stranger with whom they share a similar lifestyle at a time when they can later claim they're drunk? Yeah, I can see that. Admittedly Gordon's advice to Dean obviously wasn't what Dean was after, but I think it did Dean good to know that, honestly, he really wasn't alone in the world.
Amber Benson of course was lovely, basically Tara in a vamp form, but still lovely. Wouldn't mind seeing her character pop up again later. Certainly I'd prefer her over that Mary Sue lass from last ep.
Really, really liked that Dean considered the possibility that maybe along the way they had made mistakes. That maybe not all the demons were evil, yet they killed them anyway. The writers really really had better not just let this one slide.
As for that final shot *snort*
Writers: We have 30 seconds to kill here... Jensen! Look at the camera!
Jensen: Why?
Writers: We have 30 seconds to kill and the fangirls love you.
Jensen: Er, can you at least pretend to give me some motivation for this shot?
Writers: Hot motherfucker.
Jensen: Okay I can do that.
Golden light: *engaged*
Patented tic-in-jaw-of-supressed-emotion: *employed*

Jensen: My job here is done.
*shakes head* Possibly I would have been more open to gratuitous close-up, but, dude, a really good NME Franz photoshoot was posted up today; my heart was already taken :)

It's not 80% by the way. It's 99. *g*
Gordon was totally broken by killing his sister. And why in god's name do I get a very strong incest vibe from him, when I do not see wincest at all? I clearly am broken in some very fundamental ways.
The punch was cool. Ouch. I want to see that raincheck fic. In the junkyard. In the rain. Maybe. Really want to see them both have a really low down dirty physical fight where they whale on each other and then don't talk about it again. Repress boys, you can do it.
Sam's hair should get it's own guest spot. My god, it's like a living character. At one point I was concerned that the next gust of wind would lift him into the air and Lenore would think he was a flying vampire.
Sorry, I don't even have the excuse of being drunk tonight.
I didn't hate the Dean/Gordon sharing session in the bar. Didn't love it either, twas a wee bit clunky, but I think just about in character. Jared was fab this week again. The Only Dean gets to call me that line was delivered perfectly. Plus the whole - My fake mommy beats your fake daddy exchange outside the motel room. That felt so natural and brotherly.
We will convert you, oh yes, we will.

Date: 2006-10-16 01:46 pm (UTC)You twisted twisted person *pets* LOL! I didn't get incest vibes, but I wouldn't be surprised if
GunnGordon hadn't to some extent idealised his sister in his memory, making her the perfect woman who should be all but worshipped.I wonder if Padalecki is going to do a Boreanaz on us this season. These past three eps he really has pulled off some great scenes, whereas before when he's done the teary eye-d thing I've just gone *yawn*. I'm also hoping that Dean will get to unravel a little bit. Jensen is playing Dean very nicely, but so far he's not been asked to portray anything particularly new or complicated, but these flashes we've been getting make me think that he could blow us away if Dean got to crack for a little while :)

Date: 2006-10-16 01:51 pm (UTC)I think Sam had his moment towards the end of last season, but this ep he seemed the most grounded of the two. Maybe the shock of having nearly lost his brother as well as his father finally shook some perspective into him, at least for now.
