Franz Spam (+ Radio rec)
Sep. 24th, 2006 11:44 amYes this is otherwise known as displacement activity. What about it.
Vid: Franz in Brazil.
Oh to go to a South American gig, that has got to be the best crowd ever. The sheer volume of them all singing along to all of Walk Away was amazing, and you could see that the lads were just blown away by it all. And if there was any doubt as to how happy they were, at one point you had Bob on his knees in front of Nick. *has a moment* So adorable as they were all pissing themselves giggling, n'awwwww.
ETA: From Tehran With Laughter - Great look at how times have changed from the point of view of Iranian comedians working in the UK and US. Because, yes, Iranians really do have a sense of humour, and can laugh at themselves as much as at others. Though behind the gags, there are serious points being made. For example, when talking about the BBC news coverage: 'And now for a balanced view from the Middle East, we go to Muslim nutcase with a hook.' Do go have a listen.

Date: 2006-09-24 11:34 am (UTC)I desperately need to see them live again, though. It was one year and eleven months exactly yesterday since I saw them last. Completely mad!

Date: 2006-09-24 11:53 am (UTC)I'm glad I got to see Franz before they buggered off on their break. But, yes, now I want to see them again!

Date: 2006-09-24 11:58 am (UTC)I was holding out for that small venues tour they said would happen in March/April - you know, the one that never happened because they kept going to tour in America OVER AND OVER AGAIN* - because I'm not good at large venues, too many people. I really hope they do one for the next album, or I'll be very sad.
*Bitter? Me? Nah, never!

Date: 2006-09-24 03:38 pm (UTC)UK Nova? I have to admit I've never heard of the site, but then again I am a complete clueless so-and-so when it comes to the net and downloads. Hmm...
Oh yes, I remember the irony of the headline 'TOP SECRET FRANZ GIGS!' plastered across the front of the NME, and thinking well that's kinda blown it, LOL! Those lads are just addicted to the rush of touring. Wait, no, I take that back. I think ALEX is addicted to touring. Paul and Nick have boundless energy so don't mind, and Bob is never going to say no to Alex, and so they just keep going round and round the globe. I'm sure they'll do a few low-key gigs before officially starting a new tour, another 'warm-up' thing and all that *crosses fingers and toes*

Date: 2006-09-24 03:44 pm (UTC)I'm hoping being in the fanclub will have some kind of secret, small-venue show benefits, to be honest with you. It's all well and good if you've got lots of money to go to the arena-type venues and have transport too, but so many people DON'T. And the trouble with the low-key gigs is they'll probably be in London or Glasgow or similar cities - basically places I can't get to. Sigh! I sound a bit pathetic and whiny now, but I don't mean to. It just makes me sad that I never really got to appreciate them live while I still could.

Date: 2006-09-24 03:55 pm (UTC)Ah, don't worry about sounding whiny, I threw a full-on sulk when I saw them in London and my long-suffering pal tried to convince me that I didn't want to wait by the stagedoor as it was a) late and b) POURING with rain, LOL!
My impression of Franz is that they really do love their music more than their fame, I think they enjoy the fun of a tiny dank venue as well as a huge arena with strobe lights. Odd's are that when they've got their new album on the go they'll start to put out feelers with some smaller venues. And even if it's in London/Glasgow, maybe they'll give the fanclub forward notice so folks can try and arrange to be in the area.

Date: 2006-09-24 04:00 pm (UTC)You know, we should see them together in London if there are small gigs for album #3! I have no qualms about standing next to stage doors in the pouring rain. ;) Especially for Bob... *dreamy sigh*
I think small venues are better anyway, they're more intimate and it's more about the music than the huge flashy special effects/backdrops/strobe lighting/pyrotechnics. Plus, you can actually see that people are having a good time rather than there just being an enormous, faceless crowd.

Date: 2006-09-24 05:11 pm (UTC)Sometimes big venues work just on pure atmosphere, but my personal impression is that on the whole Franz work better on a small scale. SO much fun when people from wall to wall can all see what's going on =)
