Gakked from [livejournal.com profile] madders:
1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next 3 sentences on your LJ along with these instructions.
5. Don’t you dare dig for that "cool" or "intellectual" book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest.
6. Tag five people.

"Now what would suit me best would be a general spell cast over Lincolnshire so that three or four thousand young men would all at once be filled with a lively desire to become soldiers and fight the French." He looked at Sir Walter rather wistfully. "Would your friend know of such a spell, Sir Walter, do you think?"

- Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke.

T'is a good book if you like tales of magic. Very long and at first deceptively light and funny, but it gets darker as it goes along. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I'm not going to tag anyone, but feel free to enlighten me with your currents reads if you feel like it!

I would do the meme, except, um, that's also the closest book to me. I'm trying to read it again. (I've been trying to read it since Christmas of 2004, and not having much luck.)

I keep getting partway into it (200 pages or so) and realizing that I'm not actually enjoying it. So I put it down.

I keep thinking I'll struggle through to the end and realize that at some point, I did start liking it...
