MP3 Player recs?

The wee brother is on the hunt for a good MP3 player and so of course I look to you, my lovely FL, for any recs and/or horror stories of ones to buy/avoid like the plague. One of the main criteria is a long battery life, as the family are about to decamp for long treks across the Andes. Lucky f**kers.

So, any suggestions?

I have sold my soul at the feet of Creative mp3 players. Much less faff than iPods, easy to use with windows, and some of them allow you to put aa batteries in them as well as charging them up, which might be helpful for the wee brother. I don't know how much he wants to spend, but this one looks good, although not in pink obviously!

Ooooh, very pretty =) And actually he may well enjoy pink, he be a quirky sort of lad. Can't imagine where he gets it from. He's got about £130-150 to spend, the joys of combining birthdays, Christmas and the odd friend sold into white slavery.

And yes, they are very lucky. I hate them. In an adoring sort of way, obviously :)

I agree with bouncymonkey, I've got Creative, they're so much better and very durable and have a longish battery life!!

We've been having a look, but so far the battery life is less than 20 hours which could be a problem considering where they're heading. Also, he's a bit wary as his pals got a Creative Zen and it *literally* fell to pieces on her. Still, we'll keep digging, see what the general models are like :)

Definitely go with Creative, I have a Creative Zen Vision: M and it is wonderful, although a tad out of his price range.

They are so cool-looking. I already want one. :D

Ooh, thanks for the link! We're having a root around at the moment, the main problem seems to be relatively short battery life. Mum's managed to get a Sony MP3 with 20+ hours which I think is the kind of range they're going to need, poor souls! :)

Heee! Yes, Creative Zen is the one for me too. The best thing about it for me is the huge amount of memory - though there are a few sizes I think, so the top level doesn't have to be the one to go for.

The memory is definitely a huge plus for the spawn, we're just trying to find one with a long battery life.

And yes, the lucky sods get to swan about for three weeks in Cuzco and the jungle and some tiny village up in the clouds with a road nicknamed 'Widow Maker's Pass'. I comfort myself with the thought that at least I'll be enjoying drinkable tap water *sigh*
