Anyway, yesterday we went to see X-Men 3: The Last Stand. It was okay, not as good as the past two, but if you remove your brain and just sit back and enjoy the pretty, it's fine. Though I say this as someone who never watched the cartoons nor read the comics. My housemate - who adored both - came out of there slightly fuming.

Today we watched the last ep of The Line of Beauty. I've read the book, which left me feeling rather underwhelmed, but wanted to watch the TV adaptation only to miss the first two eps. Anyway, I'm glad I caught this one. It all seemed quite lovely to look at, and the lass who played the MP's daughter was brilliant. I actually had some sympathy for her this time round. And watching it all crumble at the end was so so sad. I noticed they cut the final talk with Toby - but actually I'm not too unhappy, my poor heart can only take so much.

I've just come back from watching X3 myself. It was definitely a bit of a mindless FX-fest, but then I'm not complaining. It looked good. I got the feeling that they were just building on the foundation the other two films set. They faffed around with the characters a bit, couldn't get into one story line or another in any great detail, then thought 'I know, let's just kill a few people off. That'll get 'em thinkin'.'Meh.

Yep, that was my impression. They were mainly playing around with what was given to them fromt he first two movies, rather than adding on anything particularly new.

Possibly I'm in the minority when I say that I liked Angel. He could have been interesting if they'd spent a bit more time on his character. Bit of waste, really.

I thought that too. He didn't really do anything for the story when he could have. Just some guy with cool wings as a bit of nekkid eye candy. There was so much potential for angst there. Sigh. And I was looking forward to the Beast. In the end he didn't do much either.

Yep, I didn't particularly feel like we'd been introduced to any new characters - not the way we met Nightcrawler in X-Men 2. Which was a shame, cos you're right, there was a lot of potential there.

I need you to pull the band aid of quickly - Pyro and Iceman, will I be pleased or will I leave the cinema yelling "Ratner sucks!".?

I think in terms of Iceman and Pyro it's as good as we were going to get given that the whole film and all the characters suffer from the lack of Singer.

However I didn't mind too much because the Cyclops/Wolverine was through the roof, though that could have been the fact that we'd had two cocktails before going in...

That's something I suppose, I aslo hear Xavier/Magneto is so slashy, they're practically heading to Vermont to get hitched.

Ah well, as long as the slash is still there, it can't be a total waste of a six quid.

Oh yes, Xavier/Magneto really go without saying, they just are, bless 'em :)

Pyro is fun though, lots of pretty fire and things going boom. And I want wings like that other dude, they looked such fun.

It seems to be that people who haven't ever read the comics, or only read a few are happy with the movie. People who read the X-verse comics mutter under their breath and wish pain on several folks involved with the making of X3 *g* At least, that seems to be the norm among the people I know :D

LOL, my housemate would be with the pain-wishing folks. She loathed the first film, was resigned to the difference and slightly enjoyed things by the second. But this one she just laughed :)

I enjoyed the film, but I'm slightly disappointed as I think it could have been so much better given the quality of the previous one.

The thing is, I enjoyed it when I was watching it. Lots of explosions, very bombastic and fast-paced. So, I enjoyed it, I just didn't like it.
