I love these little examples of culture differences.

The spawn (translation: siblings) were talking about this year's French exchange at their school. A while back a number of French students arrived in our town and were dutifully shown various museums, parks, with the odd stop at a band practice or cafe.

This week, the English were shipped across to sample la vie Francais, (yes, I know my spelling sucks), and apparently spent pretty much all the time in the pub. Which was fine. Then one day they found themselves in the middle of the riots. The police were starting to throw smoke grenades and firing rubber bullets.

French kidlets: YAY! A RIOT! *go running to join in*
English kidlets: *frozen to the spot* ...

and I've just remembered I'm supposed to be doing the [livejournal.com profile] watching_daily update. Excuse me... *runs*

Oh, the French just love a riot, don't they? We got caught up in a protest march that turned into a stampede on holiday the other year. Our kids can't be typical, though because the older ones had to be held back from diving in like they were running with the bulls at Pamplona :)

Pub crawl. Riot. Sleep. No time for museums or parks. Viva la France!
