I saw the last half hour or so of The Wicker Man a few months ago, and although I'd heard about the ending, I still found it horrible *shudders at memory* So when I saw the posters going up advertising a special Beltain man this Saturday and inviting one and all to come and enjoy the BBQ and standing in his glow etc etc. I thought, nah, couldn't be.

But nope. Driving home today past the field in question and there is a actual real wicker man going up. It's lacking head and tops of shoulders, but when finished it'll easily be taller than a small tree and it's all hallow and surrounded by hills for miles and eep.

I think they want to eat me. *hides*

To take my mind off my imminent disappearance, I watched The Invisibles. Rather underwhelming. It does have a phenomenal cast and they did get what they could from the script, in particular there were some nice comic moments and spot-on timing, but it lacked the punch a first ep should have. Still, it has potential, so I'll give it a few more eps before deciding one way or another :)

They're building a real wicker man?? EEP. Was it the proper Christopher Lee and Edward Woodward one you saw? Up until Twenty Eight Days Later, that was the most disturbing film I ever saw. I only have to hear the first bars of "Summer is a-coming in" and I'm wibbling desperately.

I was half-disappointed, but half-heartened by The Invisibles. It should be great - the cast are fantastic, but the writing is a little off. Also, ASH's accent is hilarious - every now and then a bit of 'Giles' comes through his own London accent. And I desperately wanted the guy who plays Headley to do his Doctor Who Will Shakespeare line - "Shut your big fat mouths!"

Ah, well, I will give it a few more eps. Although I ended up missing Heroes. Darn. *goes off to find ep on i-player thingie.

They're building a proper Beltane man near you?

OMG *envies liek woah*

I saw The Wicker Man at an impressionable age - I think I was about 9 or 10. From then on in I knew there was no hope - since I was pretty much cheering the pagans on all the way through and especially at the end.

The self-rigtheous religius pomposity of Wodward's character left me wtith no sympathy for him at all. *G*

I wandered into the living room last night to find Mother watching The Invisibles and laughing like a drain....it was slightly worrying.

Oh wow, I want to see a real wicker man! *envies*

As for the film I love it, one of my favourites and yes I was cheering on the pagans too ;p

I saw the remake out of curiosity last year and it was painful. Mind you if you saw that you'd get over your fear because it's just laughably bad.
