**happy sigh**

So, my family came up to London for the day. Always nice. Lunch was had. Things were talked about. I wished my sister a happy birthday.

And then we went to the concert of Howard Shore conducting the London Philharmonic Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall. Of course the music was all from Lord of the Rings.

Very, very cool.

There were *six* double basses, several funny stringy instruments that were apparently from China, a full chorus of adults and boys, the precussion section looked like it had just done a global trip. Instruments from all over. And of course your regualar sized orchestra with strings and woodwind and brass...

So, yes, very cool.

To top it all off, there was a large screen above the stage, and throughout the performance images of the orginal artwork was projected up over the orchestra. So when the brass let rip with the Urak Hai, there were drawings of that final scene from Fellowship. Gorgeous pictures of the Riders of Rohan when the chorus sang their hearts out for that final charge from Helm's Deep. Treebeard and Gollum also cropped up in the appropriate places. And 'The White Tree' is just a spectacular piece of music to hear live, all the instruments and singers working flat out.

Heh. Although, there were several moment where you did feel sorry for the players. Naturally there were parts where there isn't much to do. But even so, it was amusing that during a particularly loud and buzzing battle scene where most of the orchestra are playing a million miles an hour, the double bass players spent half the time looking back up over their shoulders and admiring the pretty pictures on screen. I think they were basically playing just two notes over and over again for pretty much five minutes. Ah well. :)

Who's a lucky girl, then?

*sighs wistfully for the days when she could see a decent concert*

The Ulster Orchestra doesn't really match up. And singing too? This sounds absolutely wonderful. Wish I could have been there.

Oh, by the way, I wrote Angel/Wes. PG13 of course, but still, slashy. And smutty by way of innuendo. Go have a laugh.

*hugs*
