Synchronise watches...
Jan. 16th, 2008 02:31 pmI've always remembered that tale from the shooting of Velvet Goldmine. There were Christian Bale and Ewan McGregor stuck atop a very cold rooftop on a very cold English night, filming a sex scene which naturally required a bit of a shortage of insulating clothing. The film crew were some distance away so the director had to shout directions to his two shivering stars. Unsurprisingly one time the lads started the scene as instructed and kept going, and going, and going, started to get extremely chilly, before finally realising they'd been had and broke off to look across the icy abyss to see the film crew pissing themselves laughing.
So judging from one reported anecdote from John Barrowman's impending autobiography, the sense of humour of film crews hasn't changed one bit. Thank god. In this instance, it was John Barrowman and Gareth David-Lloyd filming a Jack/Ianto kiss for sometime in series 2. They were cued in and off they went, and dutifully kept going and going and going. Until apparently John's lips were going numb and Gareth was starting to get "twitchy", at which point it finally dawned on them that perhaps something was amiss. And upon looking around, yes, the rest of the crew were in muted hysterics behind the cameras where the director had kept the 'Cut!' command silent.
Possibly JB's and GDL's reaction of "You f**kers" was the same as Bale's and McGregor's, possibly not. In either case, I find the mental imagery highly entertaining :)
As for the Marsters/Barrowman snoggage, turns out that James' girlfriend was on set that day. And, bless her, afterwards she told him that one of her fantasies was for him to kiss another man. In which case, I do envy you ma'am, talk about hitting the jackpot at the first try.
In conclusion, T minus 6 hours and 19 minutes...
