First recs of 2010
Jan. 12th, 2010 09:19 pmI'll admit I'm a bit twitchy since I think I'm going through Merlin-withdrawal pangs. I'm hoping at some point new SPN will distract me with renewed angel-on-angel violence. It's tough right now; no Thick of It, no Sarah Jane Adventures. Although on the plus side Lark Rise to Candleford has returned and seems to be on good form.
Another positive is that I have my first new album love of 2010; passing on an instant rec for 'The First Days of Spring' by Noah and the Whale. Utterly gorgeous music, they've been given an orchestra which they use just brilliantly. I may pass on a few songs later to try and spread the love.
Also, an instant Merlin fic rec: When The Day is Over, It Gets Dark - PG - by

'...once upon a time, Merlin had saved him from a lake just like this; arms about his chest and legs kicking, deep breaths heavy through his sleep-fuddled mind.'
Heartbreaking, bittersweet fic that goes up to Arthur's final battle. Though I would say it is more sweet than bitter; this is one of those rare fics that is emotionally draining, wonderfully written, and yet still has the mythical 'happy ending'. Gwen and Lancelot are there, along with Morgana, and I liked how none of them were reduced to clear villains or kingdom-breakers. I would list Arthur/Gwen as equally valid a pairing as Arthur/Merlin. Do go and have a read and leave feedback.
