Right, dear FL, I require your advice. Particularly from those who have vaguely recent knowledge of good eateries in Brum.

Pal of mine has a birthday coming up, we'll be in Birmingham, and it'd be great to be able to take her somewhere a little bit special for the birthday dinner instead of just decanting to the usual pub. Anyone got any pointers?

Hmm, budget we can stretch a bit as it is a birthday - so not the equivalent of tea at the Ritz, but surpassing say a tea at Wetherspoons :)

And oh yes, I forgot a rather important point - she be a veggie: no meat, including no fish.

Check out Cafe Soya and see if that's what you're wanting. Fantastic vietnamese/veggie food, but it's not a "fancy place".
