Oh Torchwood. You are utter cheese, you laugh at the idea of character continuity and something even vaguely resembling plot or common sense - hopefully some of this will change a wee bit in series two, but for this season, you'll do very nicely thank you :)

Okay, lets start with the gripes.

Er, character continuity. As usual. Their views on the subject of the rift seemed to go all over the place. Just... *shakes head* However this is hardly new stuff or unexpected. I'm hoping it'll improve next series, because often there'll be scenes that would be a lot more poignant if the characters were the same as they had been last week.

The music. God bless the score writer. Let's hear it for the inspirational soaring violins et al.

The strong emotions. I think it's just I'm used to my Wesley and Giles, who show abject grief with a bat of an eyelid or a slightly delayed lifting of the whiskey glass. The whole tears and screaming and roaring just leave me feeling slightly awkward and trying to look away the way the English do when faced with unsightly emotion. That said, this is Torchwood sci-fi and I'm getting used to it.

My biggest wish for next series, though, is that Jack would begin to acknowledge some kind of bond between him and his team. Whilst I do feel for the guy and all he's been through, the whole 'There's nothing, there's no-one...' does detract a bit from the team love I want to be feeling. Takes the heart out the series a bit if the leading man spends every given opportunity reminding us that actually he's only here until The Doctor arrives and then he'll pop off without so much as a second glance back because there's nothing for him here. Nothing at all. (I think Tosh and Ianto would take it particularly hard.)

Now, the good.

Ianto's outfit. The purple shirt and dark waistcoat. *sigh* He was looking lovely enough that I stopped caring that the whole scene between him and Owen really made no sense with their moral compasses changing every two seconds. And I do actually like Owen, but still, I did grin when he got shot - least Ianto isn't the kind of person to make idle threats. Unless of course you take into account Cyberwoman. But that would mean expecting the writers to be consistant from one ep to the next so let's move on.

Ianto picking up Jack's coat when he and Gwen took Jack out the Hub.

Ianto crumbling when he thinks it's just him and the coat from hereonout.

Ianto giving Jack a hug, and Jack being the one this time to initiate a kiss.

Creepy dude with the clocks. I'm guessing he survived, so does that mean Torchwood now have an official nemesis? A recurring evil figure who'll try to trip them up? God I hope so, because if nothing else that would hopefully mean we get a bit of background on the guy, including a buckletload of HOW/WHY.

Rhys. *sniffle* I like Rhys, and I'm glad he made it - even if, again, I got lost with the how time got rewritten and such.

Owen. Character. Continuity. *headdesk* I liked him at the hospital, getting the medics to buck up. I did enjoy the scene with him and Diane, and actually it was fun watching him and Ianto snark. Boy, those two really don't like each other do they. By the end where he's in tears and hugging Jack and attempting to apologise I was just letting the pretty wash over me. Basically Owen's a bit of a prick, but he has a heart and is loyal to Torchwood. Unless you stop him trying to get back his girlfriend. In which case he'll shoot his boss, but hey everyone there has betrayed Jack/Torchwood so this isnt' a big deal these days.

Tosh is made of win. Hiding her clues and keeping Jack's secrets for him and toasting Captain Jack.

Gwen. Oh, just, whatever. I like her but we learnt nothing particularly new this ep.

Jack. Swears to look after his team but actually cares for none of them and apparently is just hanging around because that's all he can do. Ooh, though that was an interesting backstory about the war. Was he talking about the World Wars, or something during his time travels? My guess is that he'll rejoin the Doctor but, I hope, realise that actually he has come to really care for Torchwood Three and choose to go back to them rather than stay on as a companion. And yes I am shallow and one of those fangirls who was shamelessly cheered by the full-on snog we got between him and, er, Jack.

THE TARDIS!! So, we now know how Jack will rejoin the Doctor, i.e. it looks like he was picked up rather than falling through the rift into the Doctor's lap. To see Jack smile like that when he realised what was happening... *sniffle* I hope he finds whatever it is he needs, realises that actually there is something after all for him in Cardiff, and he returns a happier man to look after his team.

The only thing that really bugged me about these episodes was that I had assumed we'd get the explanation about the connection between Eve Myles' two characters in the DW/TW universe that I'm sure we were promised at some point (unless I missed it in an earlier episode, in which case, disregard :P).

I loved the bit when Ianto was smelling Jack's coat. And the bit when Owen was taunting him about being Jack's part-time shag in his wet dreams was pretty fun too. I laughed when he shot Owen, though. And finally, even though it made no sense - thank goodness Rhys was okay in the end. He's lovely and I hope we see more of him in the next series.
