Me and a friend had driven him to the vet's yesterday, but we got the call-back today that he really was too tiny and sick for them to do anything and did they have permission for euthanasia. Technically they're Mum's so I had to call her first, and her answer was 'Yes they do.'
Incidentally, the family still hadn't settled on a name for the pair by the time one of them was vetinised. The healthy terrapin seems to have picked up the nickname Fattie/You Fat Bastard, but beyond that nothing helpful. I got the most disdainful 'Oh' from the receptionist when she asked for their names and I had to admit they didn't have any yet. Anyway, given that I've been the one driving to various vets/aquariums trying to find some treatment and then spending hours attempting to coax the sickly one to eat anything, I decided to just go ahead and name them. When the vet asked I told him they were Midas and Neptune. So farewell Midas, you will be missed.
Neptune, aka Fattie, may you continue to prosper.
