Video killed the radio star
May. 22nd, 2006 12:56 amWell that was a frantic three days. Should only take me about a week to recover.
- FRIDAY:
- Went to see Presidents of the USA. Their opening act was some dude who played around with keyboards and invisible harmonicas and one of those toy plastic guitars. It was a case of his first song ended, and we all hit the bar to get alcohol. Regardless of whether or not it was good music, it wound up being good entertainment, and he did manage to get the crowd warmed up and excited, so go him.
The presidents themselves were brilliant. They came on and launched straight into a cover of Video Killed The Radio Star. SOOOO COOOL! Everyone sang along at the tops of their voices, and that pretty much continued for the rest of the show. And, yes, they did manage to get everyone sitting down again. So fun. They do seem such a nice band, all three having a whale of a time, and no-one trying to hog the limelight. It's really great when you can just sense there's a good dynamic.
At the end, after the encore that is because the crowd just wouldn't let them go, they came down to the front. My housemate was all excited because she loves the band, but has never met them. We got there too late for the lead singer, but the guitarist came out. He seemed pleasantly surprised that we were equally happy to see him too, going along shaking everyone's hand and such. Originally my housemate wanted to hug him, but refrained when she realised just how sweaty he was, and settled for a rather damp handshake. Aww. - Watched Franz on Later With Jools Holland. They weren't bad, but, with the exception of Outsiders (SEVEN drummers! Paul Thomson, Andrew "Fucking" Knowles, Andy D., Jamie Kills, Ross Jarman, Kieran Hebdan, Barrie Dobbin), they really weren't as good as they could be. They've been touring pretty much non stop and it shows. I've seen photos, but this is the first time I've watched them on a proper screen. And frankly Alex looked dead on his feet, he must be running on pure adrenaline. The housemate joined me for their last song and commented that he'd lost weight since she last saw him, and that he looked ill. Which he kinda did. Someone please take that man away, feed him, make him catch up on sleep, and don't let him near a stage until he's regained that healthy sparkle. Cos when you see Franz up next to perky Gnarls Barkly, Snow Patrol and others, then you realise just how tired they're all looking these days.
That said. Outsiders was bloody brilliant. I think there were eight or nine drummers by the end. Fantastic =)
SATURDAY: - Last exam at 9.30am. Absolute bastard and I'm pretty sure I failed it, but it was the last one, so no-one was complaining too much afterwards.
- Doctor Who. *sigh* Oh Mickey. I want to see more of him and Jake as they go off saving the world in their truck. *sniffle* Ooh, and that throne thing was cool :)
- End of Exams Night Out, Part 1. There was wine at friend's house and watching of Eurovision song contest. We all cheered when Finland won. Rock on, you cute little orcs, rock on.
- End of Exams Night Out, Part 2. Relocated to clubs, where there was wine and music and rum and more wine and more music... then sleep. A great night.
SUNDAY:
Basically spent recovering from Friday and Saturday. Although we did watch The Producers, very fun, and we got to squee over John Barrowman, yay!
